Priority upgrade list?

Just spoke with a really nice CSR at the international rewards desk to check on the upgrade waitlist for my SFO-CDG flight next week. When she noticed my status she offered to put me on the "priority upgrade" list. Is there such a thing? I assumed my 1k status got me to the top of the waitlist (behind UGS of course). Does anyone know anything about this? I sure hope this isn't just some way of making me feel better.

If The Res agent asks the computer to put you on the the waitlist for a flight, it will be as a PB waitlist. They must specifiy their entry to enter a PA waitlist. So that agent noticed it and then changed it to the correct priority.

If your tickets are standard award tickets -- eg milage award in Y, then they should not ordinarily be upgardeable at all -- not with miles or SWUs. Usually the computer simply won't accept you on the upgarde waitlist, but even if it clears when asked to support the upgrade at check in they will probably notice. Good luck -- maybe an oversold situation in Y will get you up to C, but sounds unlikely.

NYC,

We are hoping that additional inventory will be released allowing us to use the same amount of mileage for a business award as we are currently using for our standard economy award.

I'm just curious whether they can tell you how many people will be in front of you on a waitlist?

So you're actually not on the "upgrade" waitlist, you're on the waitlist for "saver award business class". Big difference, as you're looking for XC inventory to clear as opposed to NC. They are completely separate waitlists, so you could have everyone on the NC waitlist clear for uprgades (incl people with lower status) while they never release any seats on the XC waitlist.

I believe, and people here can correct me if I'm wrong, that once at the airport it all becomes one big waitlist and you would be at the top of the list behind UGS.

You are right, and wrong at the same time... Once he is at the airport, the chance of his XC clearing, having him recredit his miles (pay for that) and then re-ticketing are about as good as the ATSB calling up UA and saying "We just re ran the numbers, Mr. Tilton, and we had a new accountant last month, and he forgot to add a place keeping zero to the end of our formula, so we are now not going to just give you your billion, we have cleared you for 8 billion."

XY standard, while the same miles as XF/XC saver, is NOT an upgradeable fare.
