1k?
First of all I want to say what a great forum this is. I am brand new and am really pleased there is something like this out there.
OK my sad story:
Just after 9/11 as a cost cutting measure my company started making everyone under a certain level fly coach...and I am way below that level. About the same time they started sending me to Tokyo and Hong Kong fairly often. I try and upgrade as often as I can but I am "only" Premirer Exec and usually there are enough 1k's ahead of me on the upgrade list that I don't make the cut. On my last flight I was behind some guy's kids (he was in first and his kids in buisness and I was in coach) I wanted to cry.....but I digress.
This year I will fly around 85k miles. I am looking for ideas on getting to 1k status. I suppose, if it comes to that I will do a millage run, If I can find time to squeeze one in. but are there other ways to pick up qualifying miles?

Can you book the tickets in a Y or B fare bucket? Most of these will net you 150% EQMs.

AFAIK It's a wacky super secret I am not supposed to talk about it fare code. It looks like a Y smells like a Y but doesn't always act like one. I don't get any extra qualyifying miles for it

Well, unless you're targetted for specific EQM promos (such as the EQMs for dollars promo) or buy higher fares, there aren't many other ways to squeeze qualifying miles out of an airline like United, sorry.
I also have tended to fall in that nebulous 85-95k/year zone and need to do a few mileage runs to keep my status (although, I may hit 100k this year without that... wow!). My recommendation is to "pad" your trips if possible. Add a few extra legs here and there (e.g. instead of just flying ORD-LAX, fly ORD-SEA-SFO-LAX). My boss prefers that I fly Frontier (ugh... don't get me started), so most United trips I take -- personal or otherwise -- are padded.
When it comes down to it, you may have to do a mileage run or two. It's not so bad.
