Help from a AA guy
Looking now at UA. Can I upgrade from either Y to J or J to F on UA with miles (of course I can) but also on ANA????? Moving over to UA asap with all the trouble at AA. UA looks pretty good but of course a bit concerned at the posts on your merger issues. But love flat seats transpacific!

I would not be too concerned about the bankruptcy of AA. United and most other carriers did the same thing several years ago and survived quite well.
There are several of us who are currently trying to talk AA into letting us match our UA status. So far, we are still on hold. Delta has already agreed but their frequent flyer program is not as good as the one AA has.

Moderator note.
The OP has asked mainly about upgrade ability on UA and esp. ANA.
This is certainly not the thread for an extended argument on the off-topic discussion of part of the M+ program that has been hashed and rehashed in other, relevant threads. Thanks, Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator.
