E+ for non MP partner
Hi,
I apologize if this has been asked before , but could not really find anything.
In april next year, I have a TATL flight booked (BRU-->SFO) for holiday purposes.
As a 1K, I have automatically E+ seating.
Recently, I have met a girlfriend which would like to join me on that holiday. However, she's not a MP member.
Question I have is :
If I log in .bomb with my account details (1K) and book the flight on her name, would she be able to get the complimentary E+ seating ? or would she have to pay for E+ ?

Both Prem Exec and 1K have always had the right to have one companion in E+. even if on different pnr's.
In the future, there are some advantages to having one pnr w/ both of you on it (e.g., your luggage and some other benefits flow to your companion, and should your route, or re-route in the event of irrops, involve purely domestic US travel, she would enjoy your 1K status for purposes of domestic upgrades).
If you're booked together (same pnr), seating assignments are easy. Don't think you can do it online for someone else, you have to call and even the 1K agents have to ask for a supervisor to put someone in E+ for free.
So book it and call and have her assigned an E+ seat. You should also be eligible for exit row seats - go to Seatguru and look for auspicious seats. It's best to get these seats early, and check frequently as seat assignments are often lost, w/ slight equipment changes or even schedule changes.
You don't have to be on the same record as your companion, but you do have to be on the same plane, in the same class of service, so if you're in C, she doesn't have the right to E+, as you're not in economy.
As a 1K, you'll have lounge access for you and one guest.

If she's on the same PNR, she will have E+ seating as it is a benefit of your 1K status. If she is on a different PNR, you will have to call UA and have her moved into E+ (and watch out for a random computer sweep that may move her back into E-).

As stated above, if you've not yet booked, book together so you are on the same ticket (PNR).
If you've already booked, it's too late for that. It's straightforward to call and get seats in E+ together and, as already stated, you have to monitor them as your partner's seat will get lost from time to time (usually on the domestic leg where schedule changes happen more often). A note in the record that you are travelling together is helpful but does not always work.
Be careful particularly on legs with a 777. The equipment changes frequently in the week before departure and, every time there's a change, your partner will lose her seat. I have now done this five times this year with a partner on a different PNR and we have not once managed to sit together, despite promises at check in, at the gate etc.
