LH SFO-MUC: Failed C to F
Applied SWU at gate exactly when it opened, 4 hours prior to flight. On waitlist. Z fare in business class on LH 459. F completely sold out. No upgrade. Sat in business, but it was quite nice!

3/18 SFO-ICN (UA 893) Looked good until I checked w RCC but still waitlisted. Gate supervisor said will not clear (rudest UA GA ever). After leaving gate, they op'd 3 passengers. Found out later that 2 of the op'd had no status.
3/19 ICN-SFO (UA 892). C oversold by 6.

3/14 ORD-PVG UA835, old-style 777: Applied SWU about two months ago, W/L. At the gate I was #3 of 12 awaiting C=>NF when it checked in full. (And the W/L for Y=>C was 26 long when C checked in full!)

I am confused. Z isn't SWU upgradable on international routes, only miles plus copayment..

LHR - SFO Fail
Full fare, Global Service, Fail. Interestingly, had a seat the night before (printed a boarding card) and was denied when boarding. Coach on the new 777 s**ks.

Quite unusal that a GS on a fullfare (Y?) would fail. What day of the week was this? Big convention in town or something resulting in very high premium load? Did you actually have an (upgraded) C-seat and were downgraded?

SYD-SFO W->C Saturday MArch 12th.
Flight was wide open months ago and then filled up in the last few weeks. I was surprised that I did not clear close to ticketing.
However a) it was a Saturday and b) it was one week after Mardi Gras so I suspect there was still a lot of revelers departing.
It was still a bummer though, that trip kills me in Y, even the emergency exit seats. At 6'4" with a big bum, it takes days to get the kinks out of my back.
My ORD-GRU RT coming up in another week also looks grim and oversold. This does not bode well for my SWU usage this year. My fellow 1K's in the office are seeing the same kind or results as well.

My first SWU failure
9 straight cleared since I first made 1K in Sept 09, plus 2 more confirmed in the future. Failed UA 932 IAD-FRA Sat 5/14. Was #1 on the waitlist with 0 seats remaining. Lots of legroom in 21H and I didn't care about the food/wine, but I had a hard time sleeping.

5-13 LAX-LHR on V fare
flight was booked as TK code share, so could not request upgrade until checking in at the airport. Ended up #4 on the upgrade wait list with 1 seat open at the gate. To be fair, I didn't expect this to clear anyway since it was a code share.

Six years 1K, never failed SWU.
Already had 2 SWU failure SFO-PVG-SFO in 2011, barely 5 months.
It doesn't look good tomorrow (Tuesday) ORD-HKG with F2 C2 J2 Z0 Y0.
Wasting money on more expensive W fare.

UA 882 NRT-ORD on 5-27. W fare, booked about 4 weeks in advance. At least I had 17J as second prize on the 772, which was the very tired old configuration.
A bunch of people did clear, i was #8 on the WL according to the RCC matrons about 1 hour before departure.
I am now 2/4 (50%) on SWU for 2011. I have cleared on Friday and Sunday and missed on Sunday and Saturday.

UA 930 SFO LHR May 15. Failed C to F upgrade. Applied one month before. First time ever to fail c to f upgrade as a GS when applying so far in advance.
