Hope you're right on the first two -- those would be EXCELLENT additions to the route system, IMHO . FLL would be a great addition too but not at the cost of losing MIA service. US already flies non-stop DCA-FLL (but not to MIA). A move from MIA by UA would eliminate any convenient *A non-stop service from DC, I believe. I think it would also negatively affect UA's Latin America service connections from MIA (they still have those, right? ), which I thought was a primary reason for that service. Thus making it less likely a move, I'd think.

IAD-MAD existed up until '96 or so, I believe. And, didn't UA fly IAD-MXP-FCO up until about that time, too?

I'm surprised that UA would consider either of those routes again, consider that US flies them both from PHL and UA has code-shares on them both.

What is being moved to FLL? The whole Latin American hub?

US is almost certain to cut most of its intl routes if their situation doesn't rapidly improve. I would imagine if Jacque is correct, this would be a "plugging the hole" move on UA's part -- With an existing flyer base from US to start the route. Not too bad a deal - on paper at least.

Hm... I'd rather see MXP come back. But I'll gladly take FCO as a better alternative than transiting through FRA on LH. I actually tend to prefer AF through CDG these days for my MXP travel.

This is indeed interesting news.... UA operated the triangle route IAD/FCO/MXP up until about 96 and then they eliminated FCO. They never had 5th freedom rights so they couldn't pick up FCO passengers and deliver them to MXP.

They eliminated IAD/MXP as part of the fallout of 9/11 (along with MIA/CCS and MIA/SCL--I think).

UA operated IAD/MAD just about the time that US picked up both PHL/MAD and PHL/FCO--a move that I suspect was orchestrated by the now departed Stephen Wolfe (first from UA then later from US). The timing is my only evidence and I love a consipracy story--but whatever.

Heard about FCO/MAD from some of the CS agents and the operations move from MIA to FLL is being kicked around. Also heard MCO might have all TED flight but for two mainline Intl' extension.

(Place Disclaimer Here - I dont know what Im talking about half the time, the other half of the time I just make things up)

Rome would be nice.

Departing Miami wouldn't be so nice.

FCO may well be to take advantage of US' weakness and possible death and AZ's woeful situation also. MAD is a logical counter to IB/AA/oneworld and to tie in with JK (didn't JK fly IAD-MAD or IAD-BCN at one point or another?).
