Premier Qualification Rules
Is it true that UA doesn't count paid J and F bonus miles towards Premier status?
Why would they not allow this, like the competition (AA, CO, US,). I would think UA would want to encourage this type of purchasing behavior.

Each program has give and take.
While AA offers more points for full fare, they also offer fewer points for discount fares.

AA offers fewer q-points for discount fares, but you still get 100% of the miles.
UA actually will use a full-fare qualifying model for those that pay and fly full fare, or pay for business or first. It's just that the qualification model isn't published, so there's no exact model to it, and if you fly a mixture of full and discounted fares, you won't get any benefit from that model, but that's really not that different from AA or BA, etc. At least with AA, the model is visible so you know where you stand.
LH, I believe, has a better model if you fly and pay for a lot of business or first class. You might want to look into Miles & More.

LH has a fabulous model for UA Domestic F travellers. That's why I dropped 2P status this year and credited it all to M&M. Before FTL (*S) status you get 3x the actual miles with a 1000 mile min per flight. So if I fly MCI-ORD-MCI in F as a non-status member than I get 6,000 qualifying miles on a r/t that is ~1,150 miles in the UA program. When you get FTL at 50,000 miles then the F-Class ratio goes up to 3.75x which lets you get to Senator even quicker. You get Domestic RCC access (or has this changed?) with a SEN card but not with a 1P or 1K card and upgrades don't matter if you're flying F or C.
Compare: Using MCI-ORD-MCI (two-class F)
UA 1P 43 R/Ts
UA 1K 87 R/Ts
LH FTL (although doesn't mean much on UA) 8.5 R/Ts
LH SEN 15 R/Ts
