For people who have used this, does anyone know how does the charge show up on the ticket if I buy award accelerator? Is it opaque as in just one charge for the entire itinerarary, or 2 separate charges - one for the trip, and one for the accelerator miles?

Amusing offer

Checking in for my upcoming DCA-ORD-FRA-EBL trip and award accelerator is offering, wait for it, 150 miles for $5 or 300 miles for $9. I've never seen such small amounts, and I can't figure out how they're being calculated (given the itinerary includes 4000+ miles of UA metal). I wouldn't exactly call this "piling up miles," either.

just noticed that when I checked in for my SJC-LAX-KOA flight that it only offered the award accelerator based on the direct mileage of 23XX -- rather than the 3005 EQMs I will gain

Got an award accelerator offer for 10,412 for $260. Still kinda steep, but prices at 0.024, which isn't completely hideous. Might bite if I find I need the miles, but I have 75k in my account ...

Just bought

I just purchased about 25000 miles for about $500. This was exactly 2cpm.

I normally travel Business class on Standard 200.000 miles awards, so this makes sense at $4000 per ticket.

The problem is that they are increasing my 200k award to 250k in June. We will see how I'll use those.

When does it make sense to take Advantage of Award Accelerator?

Are 20000 miles worth $500?

I consider .02 a mile or less a good deal. If you really need the miles, .025.

In my opinion, never. It's way overpriced.

I've yet to have the offer priced attractively. Even with very little of my travel being true, el-cheapo MRs these days, Award Accelerator on a per-mile basis often costs me more than my ticket (given the 100% RDM bonus I'm getting on my ticket, that is).

United's new 2011 Award Accelerator ?

Just wondering if anyone has tried this program and whether it is worth the effort to buy the miles? Taking big trip soon and just heard about this option.

If you have the money at your disposable sure it's worth it. Note that it is only RDM's and not EQM's so there is no benefit to your Elite level. Also the price of these miles is typically a bit higher than if you were to earn them flying a regular flt.

I mean, if you need the miles, you can go for it. I don't necessarily think it's always the best value, and they're not EQMs either.

The prices have always struck me as pretty high compared with what you can earn w/ CCs, partner promotions, regular flights, etc... I suppose if you really needed N miles and didn't want to mess around with earning them other ways, it might make sense.

More opinions on award accelerator can be found in one of these (unless I'm missing some new change):
