Noticed that when my dad books NRSA travel, C class has been changed to J class. Possible they just changed the letter domination?

Wouldn't it be amusing if UA did this to see how many people on FT admit to checking availability via the award tool?

But it doesn't show up only when doing an award booking. You can see it when shopping for paid flights too. It's the last revenue bucket right after G.

It would be helpful, if a CO flier could outline what J on CO is:

Business class? Where does it fit into the current line-up of business class fares?

I don't think so...
There are J class seats on B757-200.
Unless, it means the domestic portion for the international flight.

My question is, how much is the fare for the J class seats?

OMG.. just saw J class taking over C's position on Apollo, with C now next to Z:

[KVS Availability Tool 5.1.2/Diamond - Apollo: Availability/ITN/US-MYP]
Code:
HKG Hong Kong Int'l HK [VHHH]
ORD Chicago O'Hare Int'l IL US [KORD]
MON 09 Nov 2009

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability
--------- ------ ---- -------- ---- -------- --- -- -----------------------------------------------------------
UA 896 HKG 11:40 ORD 11:41 744 0 F9 J9 D0 Y7 B7 M7 H7 Q7 V7 W0 S0 T0 L0 K0 G0 A0 C9 Z0 E0 U0
But J is listed before C for p.s. and other domestic, "3-cabin" flights:

[KVS Availability Tool 5.1.2/Diamond - Apollo: Availability/ITN/US-MYP]
Code:
JFK New York John F Kennedy Int'l NY US [KJFK]
SFO San Francisco Int'l CA US [KSFO]
MON 09 Nov 2009

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability

UA 5 JFK 06:00 SFO 09:44 757 0 F9 J9 C9 Y9 B9 M9 E9 U9 H9 Q9 V9 W9 S9 T0 L0 K9 G0 A9 D9 Z9

From looking at a few samples in ExpertFlyer of CO premium fares on international flights... J is the highest possible fare (there is no F), then it goes C, D, Z, but in the samples I chose I noticed that the C & D fares were always exactly the same price (is C a new fare class on CO? Maybe they added C like UA added J).

From ExpertFlyer... a sample of CO availability on an IAH-NRT flight:
J9 C9 D9 Z0 Y9 B9 M9 H9 K9 Q9 U9 V9 G9 W9 E9 S9 T9 N9 L9

The other thing is that from ABACUS, *Alliance is updating their booking code.
Maybe it relates to this.

Obviously J is the wave of the future... so will NC & XC soon be replaced by NJ & XJ?

Other Economy fares (E M U H Q V W S T K L) 100% 100%

http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6722,1177,00.html

J is also quite common on other airlines, like VS. Their business-only top fare has always been J, then D, then Z. I wonder if J was commonly used on airlines which had business-only fleets, no First?

Lufthansa introduced booking class "J" 1 year ago as one class above "C" and the fares are ca. 10-12% higher in J compared to C.
The reason LH gave for the introduction of the class above C is to have a booking class for tickets where other segments are on competitors such as BA IIRC.

I always thought that is what "C" was for. Now they need a class above full fare Business Class.
