basic seat reservation question

I just reserved three C tickets for December GVA-IAD on United.com. When booking, it gave me seat reservation opportunties, which I took, but the confirmation shows "N/A" on seating assignment. I don't have a lot of experience on United or with booking on the site, so maybe I messed up - could anyone confirm (1) whether advance seating assignment is actually possible (none of us are United FF members, but my husband and I are both Senators/Star Alliance Gold); and (2) whether and how I can go back to confirm seat assignments.

Thanks.

Take you United confirmation number, go to the website and click on MY ITINERARY, type in your confirmation number and last name, and you should see your reservation. If you don't see your seats on the itinerary, click "seats" to select seats.

EDIT: oops...didn't see the C part

OP said they booked C tickets, which would make E- seats irrelevant.
