Adding as many layovers as possible

I'm looking to book a transatlantic fare, Europe to the US on United. I've attached a screenshot of the transfer restrictions from the fare rules.

I'm taking that as meaning I can do 3 transfer total 4 flights in each direction, however, I can only get 3 flights before the fare jumps massively. Am I mis interpreting the rules or whats the best way to work out some creative routings?

As the text says .. there is also a routing rules . You need to match the routing rules too (sometimes there's no routing rule, only MPM - max permitted miles)

There's no free access to routing rules - you need paid expertflyer (or other services) to see it.

Please post route and dates. There could be many things going on. Routing rules still apply and stops can't be 'anywhere'. Also fare class with married segments needs to be available, which might restrict options. One way to see what is possible is to use ITA matrix and enter AAA to YYY with a UA UA UA UA routing.

Thanks for that - so I'd need to pay for expert flyer and can't use ita matrix?

I found one that allows 4 flights on the outbound but would like more creative routings

Basically I'm trying to force an overnight in any US city on the way out.

no itamatrix is free. https://matrix.itasoftware.com/search Yes, for routing rules EF is best, but unless you want to know about specific routing combos you don't need that.

If you post what you are trying to do ... someone might be able to help. Dates and city pairs for starters as well as booking class you are looking for.

Looking at:

DUB - SFO 7 SEP
LAX - DUB 15 SEP

Fare Class K costing €620 in basic economy.

Ideally on the way out a overnighter in a smaller airport with cheaper hotels

Are you starting in the US? If yes, depending the layover time, it may create a farebreak.

Doable, plenty of options. 700 EUR r/t with 4 segments each way. The return gets forced into L-class with 4 segments and the TATL segment is on AC. 3 segments in the return stays in K-class for 640 EUR with all UA metal

DUB-SFO KKPMF6BQ

Spoiler

DUB-LAX KKPMF6BQ

inbound (LAX-DUB) is fared in the same direction as outbound so you have to read the construction from right to left.

Spoiler

findark and 89703511961 like this.

I've found my routing on ITA Matrix. I have no problem with getting the outbound to price out correctly (using a one stop on the way back)

But I'm specifically looking for

LAX - SFO UA552 8.25PM - 9.49PM
SFO - EWR 10.35PM - 7.00AM (+1)
EWR - DUB 7.05PM - 7.05AM (+1)

However, I cannot get this to price out on united.com

Any suggestions? I tried seperate flights, LAX-EWR-DUB and LAX-SFO-DUB but none worked5

ITA Matrix and Google Flights don't actually check married segment inventory availability with multi-city searches (they only check individual flight segment inventory). So you should take their fare quotes with multi-city searches with a large grain of salt.
