Charge for first bag?

When I made my reservation, the website said the first bag was included.
I immediately got a Booking Confirmation that said the first bag was included.
I then got an eticket itinerary that said the first bag was $40.

I didn't us a United CC, and am just the lowest mileage member.

So, how much is my first bag? If $40, is there any point to complaining I was mislead?

Itinerary? Status? Operating carrier?

United Economy Refundable, Madison WI to Salt Lake City. It doesn't say who it is operated by, so I presume it is actually United.

Just to confirm, you are UA Silver, right? If so, you get 1 free checked bag.

The bag is $40, or $35 if you prepay.

UA is required to honor what it displays, so if you have a notice that it was free, they’ll need to honor that… but check to see if that’s what it really said, as opposed to “free if you use your United credit card to purchase the flight” or something.

I interpreted “lowest mileage member” as no status. If that’s actually Silver, then, yes — one bag.

$40 is standard bag charge if you dont have status or use a qualifying credit card for a fee waiver. Unless you have screenshot of $0, youre out of luck unless you can show you should have gotten a fee waiver based on status or use of qualifying credit card.

Note that a lot of people see $0* as $0, and miss the info the * refers to.
