Is there an explanation why you cannot purchase upgrades while you have points plus attached to your reservation? With an otherwise seamless interface on the United app, I find having to call the 1K line to unattach plus points to view upgrade options quite frustrating.

You should be able to move normal PlusPoints submission online by going to: my account -> upgrade -> find the relevant waitlisted itinerary

Mr. Worldwide needs an upgrade? Come on now, you should be flying private.

This has been true for some time and seems mostly impacting Polaris marketed flights. You can see the the cash option for most other flights.

As for removing the PlusPoints request, that is easily done online as mentioned by the prior poster. However, Miles + copay requires calling. The agents can tell you the offer without removing the upgrade request.

If concerned about losing ones place remove the waitlisted request, with all the new prioritization factor, time of request is no longer likely to have an impact,

^ im sort of assuming ticketing order is now tiebreaker after status/fareclass. But is there something else (other than CC, business priority stuff)?

not anymore
Waitlist priority for all flights
  1. United Global Services® requests
  2. PlusPoints upgrades and MileagePlus Upgrade Awards
  3. Premier status of the traveler*
  4. Fare class
  5. Chase United MileagePlus Club cardholders and Presidential Plus cardholders
  6. United Corporate Preferred participants
  7. United Chase Cardmembers with $25,000 in annual spending
  8. Date and time of request
plus there is paid PremPlus priority of those flights
*On flights equipped with United Premium Plus, we will process requests to upgrade to business class for customers ticketed in United Premium Plus (fare classes O, A, R) before processing requests for customers ticketed in economy.
