Youll have to tell UA that you’ve been 1K for 17 years. They only see your current year Premier status and Million miler status. They can then type in “17-year 1K” to see the additional benefits

Each flight is different and I'm out of ORD as opposed to EWR, but just for anecdotes, this year I've purchased 3 r/t international fares (MUC x2, Sao Paulo) in PE and haven't flown in PE yet - all flights were upgraded. Similar story in previous years - I've yet to fly in PE cabin. Hang tight and hopefully you'll clear.
