This us an archive thread, the active thread is General discussion of UA's inflight service (Domestic / International, all cabins)
previous thread: COVID Era UA inflight service changes

Thread is for general discussion of the state of UA in-flight service / catering, comparison to other carriers, past UA offerings and concerns with management decisions.

For a specific post about a recent in-flight food, use the appropriate Let's Eat .... thread.

The current Onboard Service descriptions by UA.com

Long-haul international premium cabin dining
North America, Caribbean and Latin America premium cabin dining
United Economy dining

Since the UA website is extremely vague, I'm looking for a few volunteers to submit data, and I will summarize to complete the wiki. kind regards, phkc070408

I find these postings cruel, and look forward to moving to the next "page" on this thread.

If the overwater segment is on ANA, UA collects 50% with thanks

I just did HKG--NRT-EWR yesterday. Too embarrsed to pose meal photos here. It was a last min planned trip so I was not able to get J on ANA's HKG-NRT flight, but its Y meal was better than UA's NRT-EWR Polaris meal. If ANA can serve ice cream cup in Y, why UA cannot do it in J?
I hear some of the reasns are catering provider change and impact of international catering facilities due to Covid etc; however, why are airlines such as SQ or NH don't have the same issues. They are located overseas and often use the same catering providers.

I am also consdering booking NH operated UA codeshared flights for transpacific travels. At least NH continues to fly to the midwest and east coast from Tokyo. Unlike UA who is suspending NRT-EWR flights due to lack of aircrafts.

this thread is definitely reinforcing the ANA/JAL/SQ only rule lol.

Well -- these things do take some time to play themselves out -- yes business travel has dramatically increased and as people get back in the air they will learn the new normal -- and then UA will start slowly to see the impacts of all of these "death by a thousand" cuts -- followed by a flurry of announcements comings about catering improvements, better hard product (doors lol), and so on -- just like UA has always done....

I mean honestly -- why does UA have to TRIAL having better food and service? Do they think we would revolt and demand a return to the slop and no service?

Hard to tell whether this pile of slop or my ex-HKG *shredded chicken* dog food in January 2020 is a bigger insult to the customer.

Ah, yes ... I was thinking the same. We flew a day or two apart in January 2020. I think this has ended up becoming the "blueprint" for the current service at all stations ... these must have been the images shared with the new catering providers during the cutover from Chelsea!

Let's not forget that J fares are absolutely insane to most places right now and factors higher than they were pre-Covid.

$10K+ to LHR (from WAS where there's plenty of competition). $16K+ to FRA! So the fact that UA can't even spend $50 let alone $10 more on a decent looking J meal is ridiculous.

Credible source indicating new menus and soft service starting June 1 all trans-Atlantic and staggered launches across APAC and other regions.

Have re-started and re-titled this discussion thread on UA's inflight service. Purpose is the same, discussion on the state of UA's inflight service system-wide.
As threads get excessive long, readers may have issues with the thread and the system software strains with the thread size. The prior discussions has been archived as COVID Era UA inflight service changes {Archive}

While there are multiple "Let's Eat" threads, the purpose of those threads is to be a resource to those looking at what are the present UA options for various routes. General discussion of the state of UA's inflight service is best in this thread to leave's the "Let's Eat" threads a usable reference resource. General discussion in the "Let's Eat" Threads will be moved to this thread.

New doesn’t mean improved. But hopefully it does in this case

Due to the original Polaris rollout, I’ll believe it when I see it. Though I will admit that if BA can go from worst to very good by hiring Do&Co to cater, it can be done. I just am skeptical of UA announcements.

The Catering Ops VP, unless it has changed yet again, is Mandeep Grewal who has a strong exCO Revenue Management background. With the elimination of Chelsea and outsourcing to other catering vendors, I would suspect that UA is not focused on becoming a leader with respect to meals/dining in the premium cabins. I really hope though that the rumor of new menus etc. starting June 1 is true; if they could restore Polaris in-flight dining to even something half as good as what it was at launch, then they could at least be on par with AA and DL.

Yes, that is her and I will state publicly here she is out of touch.
