RE N13954 Polaris completion.

788 Maint:
N29907 sked to enter XMN 2730/ May, looks like a maint visit - appears older 788s have recently visited heavy maint. So, it looks like the remaining 4 789s in Diamond will not be moving to XMN for now. Could there be a supply chain issue on Polaris mods? Otherwise, maybe a WB shortage and/or time limit for N29907 for heavy maint.

Not certain what "WB shortage" means. Worker Bee? I wonder if Covid lockdowns have thrown a monkey wrench into the upgrade and maintenance schedule. N24972 took over a month longer than expected. Could there also be an issue with United just needing the planes?

Supposedly the PW 772s are coming back mid-May. I think the requirements are increased fan blade inspections and reinforced engine cowlings. Any idea how many of the ones currently stored have gotten the mods?

Why incompetence? It hasn’t been a cakewalk figuring out capacity during COVID. If they cannot afford to have them sit out to be reconfigured, not sure why it would be called incompetence.

They stupidly updated the short route AC first, leaving passengers with junk on the longest routes - no PP, no Polaris on 15-18hr travel

If they restricted these junkers to domestic (until converted) that would be fine.

The decision on what order they were to be reconfigured was a long time ago. Let's not forget they completed the 777 program which prior to covid was the true backbone for longhaul. The 787 was going to be primarily for longer thinner routes and the longest were going to get dedicated Polaris birds. If covid didn't happen, by summer 2020 we'd have 777s done and dedicated Polaris to Austalia and Singapore. Everyone would like those last 4 789s done but the diamond seats aren't terrible. They are leaps and bounds improvement over 8 across 772s.

and they short sighted prioritized shrinking Biz class in the 788 v updating the ULH birds

only the 789 can do SIN. Even reconfigured 777s done twice for grins is of no help

red herring, those don’t service ULH either.

At least quarantine the ghetto 789s to fixed shorter routes. UA used to know how to do this.

One way or another, I'm hoping to see substantially more CRJ550s join the fleet - in the interim. At some point United will need to finally rework the scope issue by adding the A220 (for example) for mainline, opening up the ability to add more larger regional jets. We just aren't seeing more 50-seaters built, so there has to be an endgame. Fuel cost and fleet age may accelerate decisions. Waiting for electric or hydrogen powered regional planes may take longer than the remaining service life of the current fleet.

Yes, only 789s can do SIN. Prior to Covid SIN and Australia were going to get dedicated Polaris 789s. It had been announced not long before covid that was UAs plan.

There are no Cr-200's on CLE-ORD on any flights from today and none the rest of the year this year. Their is a daily CR-700 from June 3.

Amen MBS, I have been flying the human torture chamber (a/k/a CRJ 200) twice a week from CRW to ORD for the past eight years. It used to be the ERJ 145 which is a lot better but alas they were removed in 2014 for the CRJ. During 2020 and 2021 I had to do a lot of flights via CLT to ORD as United went to one flight a day for a while. CRW to CLT is all 700's and 900's which I miss!
