On that length of flight I would rather be in E+ with an empty middle than in First.

On LAX/SFO, if I get the upgrade when Im already settled in, I declineunless theyve given away my seat, then I have no choice.

Twice in the past year I've been upgraded after boarding, and no one bothered to come back to let me know. In both cases I assumed I would not be upgraded as the front cabin had checked in full, and the door had been closed, so I didn't think to check. The flight attendants didn't seem concerned to be taking off with empty seats in F. If this has happened to me twice, maybe it happens all the time? Could be what happened in this case.

Recently experiencing some weirdness going on with upgrade lists.

Yesterday flight I was #3 on the list with 10 out of 12 booked.
2+ hours before the flight, I got a text that I have been upgraded.
List then showed myself plus 3 others as upgraded, and now 11 out of 12 booked.

Flight took off with 2 empty FC seats, and 10+ uncleared on the upgrade list.

I was pretty sure a similar thing happened a month or so ago, but wasn't paying enough attention to swear to it -- Placement on the list showing I would miss the upgrade, then getting cleared with room to spare.

Heres a new one for me. Upgrade on this flight cleared yesterday for me. Was just browsing the flight status after I boarded and noticed 3 seats were available, with quite a long upgrade list.

kinda odd that they wouldnt clear the list before boarding but whatever. Anyways, now Im sitting up front in 3D with an empty seat next to me and an empty row behind. They never bothered to clear the list at all. Sure enough they closed the flight and then everyone else on the list disappeared.

its only a one hour flight but still I cant understand why this wouldnt have been done.

Flight number removed because I dont want anyone getting in trouble.

They either didn't process the upgrade list because of some operational reason (in which case they won't get in trouble if someone looks into it), or they did nt do their job properly and should be retrained, reprimanded, etc.

You should be getting someone in trouble, they're not doing their job. Please write this in to customer service or the 1K desk, and post the flight details here.

I understand the sentiment but respectfully, Im not going to do that.

We all make mistakes in our job from time to time or have a bad day. And in this case the only consequence is BRI, R had to sit in an economy plus seat instead of a first class seat for a 1 hour flight on an ERJ. If I was BRI, R, I would be mildly annoyed but not much beyond that.

If this was a Polaris flight or a longer domestic route then yes I would probably name / shame / complain.

Nah, in Hobo Euro Business they fill the middle seat, but move the curtain to be behind the last seat they sold as Business. Its very revenue friendly.

Curious, whats the 1K Voive? Is there a GS Voice?

Awkward mod note: Not sure if this thread is intended as "empty seats despite people who should have been UGed" or "empty seats even after all CPUs clear" -- historically it has covered both, so I'll leave this in here.

MSP remains such a sad/weird market for United. Monday morning 739 MSP-EWR is almost completely full, but had 2 assigned in E+ and 3 empty in F with no revenue pax on the waitlist before standbys cleared. Three NRSA flew up front.

In the same vain as EWR is "such a weird market" for DL. UA won't be grabbing much OD traffic out of MSP with the massive DL fortress. I'd imagine the same is true for DL. No doubt you can find "a" flight with an empty FC seat on DL out of EWR but those would be super few & far between just like UA ex-MSP.

I would agree with weird but not sad. My parents and I ended up 4,5, and 6 (1k, silver, and GM, respectively) with plus points on SFO-MSP on Saturday. F was sold out even before we booked.

MSP-EWR on DL doesn't have quite the elite/premium light loads that UA does, although to be fair DL is flying it with 717s and I cherry-picked a UA 739 instead of the 319/E75 that is more common (wouldn't be surprised if this one is just to cheaply RON the frame in MSP).

Sad in the sense that I like United and I worry for routes whenever I see numbers like this. The morning flight is already gone from the winter schedule, down to 1x 319 and 1x E75 daily. Tighter schedule and inventory means I won't be on UA next time. SFO seems to be hotter demand this decade, but I flew it a lot in the 2010s and it was always a free CPU with my 1K status and earlier in this thread I found a post of mine about an SFO flight 1/20 in F at OLCI

But for comparison, UA used to fly LAX-MSP with E75s, and that route was a common source of domestic op-ups until it got cut.
