They had this announcement for me on Saturday’s 100% full flight this weekend. I didn’t do it as we had no large carryons so decided to just spend a bit more time in the club. Was shocked that when I got to the gate about 30 mins before departure boarding was nearly complete — benefits of the low density 767 I guess.

Can also add that this happened 4 weeks ago as well from SFO - EWR, and they told everyone to meet under the clock

So, I was sitting in the rotunda United Club at SFO the other day when I heard an announcement addressed to passengers going on a flight to JFK. The announcer said if those pax wanted escorted preboarding to meet under the clock at 12:30 (or whatever the time was.) and they would be escorted to the gate. Is this something new?

My post #361 in April pointed that out

Is this different from GS pre-board? I checked post 361 and didn’t see anything about this. If it is different from the normal pre board (where all the gate fleas loiter around the boarding area and obstruct the path lol), is it offered for non-JFK flights too? United’s preboarding process is pretty hit or miss IME.

This is specific to SFO-JFK fliers who are in the United Club - any status.

Does this pre board before GS? Just curious, why do they do this?

The UC pre-boarding is before GS. I'm guessing it's similar to what the "carnation people" used to do for 3-cabin first class passengers.

United's approximation of Lufthansa driving you out to the gate in a Porsche SUV at Frankfurt?

Speaking of which... the Mercedes ground transfer program (as well as the UA marketing relationship with MBUSA) was terminated during COVID.

"Here we're now leaving the Rotunda United Club. I need to emulate a Porsche SUV engine: Vroom, Vroom!"
