Update: SFO-BLR also will change from UA 824/825 to UA 152/153 from July.
ORD-DEL UA 898/899 -> UA 712/713
EWR-DEL: UA 801/802 -> UA 82/83
EWR-BOM: UA 829/830 -> UA 48/49
Perhaps a need to add more 8xx numbered flights to/from East Asia?

UA82/83, UA48/49, UA104/105 (at least) had been used in the past (e.g. last year) on these routes, so UA is just bringing those numbers back.

Nevermind here too. Also redundant as well.

IAD-PDX and v.v. used to be UA228/UA229 for a while and then changed to UA250/UA251 until recently where it seems it's BOS- EWR and BOS-IAH... Interesting thread but it seems it would be safe to assume that there is a new numbering scheme.

With all of the flight number and route shuffling UA has done over the years how many sub-3000 flight numbers has UA *not* used? in the past decade

A transposed digit and typo bit me while looking for the status of another flight on FlightAware left me staring at UA2950 LAX-LAS "Arrived over 23 years ago" https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL2950

(Kind of impressive that FlightAware has data that old...)

SFO-SIN

Just read UA adding SFO-SIN longest flight using flight number 1 and 2. How many other routes over the years used 1 and 2.

When UA had RTW flights I think UA 1 went west (LAX-HKG-DEL-LHR-JFK) and UA 2 flew east in the opposite order. I think there was a segment between JFK and LAX but it was not consistently numbered 1 and 2 from memory. In 1999 the RTWs had been stopped and UA 1 ended HKG-BKK.

Found UA3020 ORD-IAD and UA3021 IAD-EWR in FLIFO today, both operated by B764s. Are these extra sections? Not the typical charter flight numbers.

So does anyone here understand UA's logic, or is there none? The flight numbers don't make much sense to me if there are exceptions along the way.

There seems to be none;:my working hypothesis is that except for "flagship" routes where manual intervention occurs scheduling's computer picks an unused number at random for mainline flights. I've seen the same city pair at the same time be a low 3-digit flight and a high 2xxx series flight within the span of a few months.

Is there a "fun flight numbers" thread? Or do they go in this omnibus one?

I smiled when I noticed

ZRH-ORD UA12
