Saver award or everyday award?

A saver award definitely wouldn’t get priority. An everyday award might, although it shouldn’t. I suspect, however, that it’s just a side-effect of the fact that saver awards are more likely to be available on low-load flights.

You made me look. It is an everyday award, and I booked the award travel as the tickets were very expensive for January 1 flights out of Las Vegas.

So, it wouldn’t...

Wait, you cleared a what? The CPU period for a January 1 flight doesn’t open for two weeks.

Anyway, I was saying, it wouldn’t be beyond the realm of possibility for UA to have mistakenly coded YN as a higher fare class than anything except Y, giving you upgrade priority for CPUs. It would be a mistake, though — the correct priority is last among eligible travelers at your status level.

But something different is going on with your ticket.

He is 1K but I agree how do you get a CPU to clear now on an award ticket this far out?! Wouldn't his window be up to 72hrs max? Well I guess don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

SLC-EWR CPU for XN ticket

This one (SLC-EWR) is probably the longest flight that cleared CPU at T-24h on award ticket for my wife (1K and primary cardholder). A 739 aircraft did not hurt. I used the same-day change to get the last FC seat of her flight when I saw PZ1 at T-10 h (changed from one connection to two for SFO-RIC). 20 PlusPoints was well spent because we missed connection at EWR (45 minutes between landing and parking) and I called 1K line to switch airports in order to get home. Although UA would put us on a hotel, we had no interest to spend another night in a hotel near EWR.

Oops - sorry you are all right. It was booked as first class but somehow they changed my selected seats which is what confused me.

RDU-EWR for Thursday cleared at T-72. This is I believe my first T-72 upgrade this year.

Cleared my one and only CPU of the year on Monday, PIT-IAD on a CR7. I had tried to apply Plus Points (as I will have ~200 expiring next month and limited chances to use them) and kept getting errors. Cleared about 30 minutes out.

CPU Clearance Experiences

My first ever flight on a CRJ-550 next week (CID-ORD), and just saw that I got CPU'd. So I guess I get to check out the first-class snack bar.

My CPU rate as a Platinum in 2019 was 43.24% (16/37) which is fairly disappointing. I have the equivalent status with Delta where it was a little over 14% higher.

There are 1Ks in SFO who report less than a 10% CPU rate.

When I was Platinum in Austin, I'd say I got upgraded on about 50% of my flights. So, it's very locale-dependent, in addition to time and route of flight.

8/8 in 2019 for me & burned all my GPUs, been a pretty good year.

EWR-IAH tomorrow on 1/5. Flight had about 10-12 open FC seats prior to check in. Checked in at T-24 but didn't check the upgrade list. Hours later, only 2 seats remaining and I'm not on the list. Had to call in and have the agent uncheck me in and then remove and add my MP #. Checked in again and #1 on the list :(. Great start to the new year

Here's my CPU successes for 2019, 6 months as a Silver, 4 months as a Gold, 2 months Platinum.

Silver 10/20, 7x DEN-GJT, 2x DEN-GEG, 1x DEN-RNO
Gold 11/18, 5x DEN-GJT, 2x DEN-BHM, 2x DEN-GEG, 1x DEN-MTJ, 1x DEN-SYR
Platinum 4/6, 2x DEN-GJT, 1x DEN-MSY, 1x MSP-EWR

The majority were Q/H/U fare class.

Here is a new experience for me.

I received CPU some time between T-96h and T-90h (that is when I looked). No email or text came, I only looked at my reservation. The reservation did not say anything about upgrade confirmed, though; it just had me now seated in the last row of F, even though more forward rows were available. Then I changed my seat, and now it says upgrade confirmed.
