SFO to PVG type of aircraft

I am booking for a flight from SFO to PVG for Nov 18. During booking, the plane was shown to be 777-200. However, the route is currently service by 787.

So what type of plane will I get?

Right now UA expects it to be a 777-200. What it will turn out to be on Nov. 18th is anyone's guess. The fact that today the flight is a 787 means nothing.

OP, your flight is five months away. It is impossible to provide an educated guess. If you were a gambler, B789 would be a more likely aicraft because of the twice daily flights. United will likely send you a schedule change if B789 will be the aircraft for your flight.

Or not. Sometimes, I only see schedule changes when I open my reservations. And sometimes even for a 5 minutes change, my seat has changed even if it's the same plane type. I did not get an email from UA when my 3 class 772 got switched to a reconfigured 772 two days before departure and I did not get an email from UA when it was switched back in the morning of my flight. Ended up with a seat that I would never have chosen when I booked my flight 3 months earlier.

The OP will have to check the reservation from time to time and more frequently close to the actual date of the flight to make sure the OP likes the seat assigned if there is a change of plane.

The late flight is scheduled to be a 777 sometimes. But outside of 3 months out, who knows what it will really be.

PVG-SFO-PVG is my typical route these days (take it every 3-4 months). Since the 747 was retired, the 788 and 789 are mostly seen on this route. Occasionally the 772 is added as well. I've had aircraft changes between the 788 and 789 after booked, but have yet to have a 772 swapped with a 788 or 789. But this is United, so you never know what might happen!

United has put a 772 placeholder on all (except HKG & SIN) SFO TPAC flights starting Nov. I’m a bit nervous they’re going to pull most of the 777-300ER fleet from SFO, depriving us of significant Polaris inventory. I read in another FT thread theyre trying to get union approvals to deploy 777-300ERs from some other airports. Now if they would just get Polaris seats deployed quickly, we wouldnt care so much about the frames...

You have a specific concern between being on a 777 and 787? For certain you'll get from SFO to PVG.

Like you I do this bit, 22 time last year, 11 times so far this year. Since they retired the 747 I think I've been on the 777 a handful times but recently all 787 seems the be the rule
