F award ticket on OZ on A388 but equipment change to A350 with no F
Hi,
A couple of weeks ago I booked a one way award on OZ202 ICN-LAX (connecting to SEA) in F on the A388 for early June. I just learned that Asiana is changing the equipment for the flight effective at the end of this month to an A350. The A350 has no F and the whole reason I booked this award was to fly in F on the A388. Is there anything I can do about this?

Sure. You can get the ticket refunded in full, or a refund of the differential from F to J if you want to keep the J ticket.

Thanks. Will United do this given that it still shows A388 in their system? I have no status. Will they let me switch (for free) to the OZ222 flight to JFK and connect to a different flight to SEA from there? OZ22 has availability right now.

this just happened with me on a UA award on Thai, no more F cabin for my route UA let me make a few free changes to my reservation. I also have no UA status.

UA doesn't fly to JFK. You might be able to get them to set that up, but you'd have to change airports in New York. Does the New York flight show up if you do an ICN-SEA award search for your date of travel? Getting UA agents to piece awards together can be tough, even during IRROPS.

You'd have to convince UA that the equipment has changed in order to be able to swap flights for free. That may not be easy until the change appears in their system.

Where/how did you "learn" this?

OZ203/204 is switching some days of the week, not OZ201/202 which remains A388.

It’s moot now as it turns you you’re not affected but I don’t think OZ F is worth doing a domestic F TCON with an airport switch (ICN-JFK EWR-SEA).

In case this happens to someone, good luck dealing with UA. Had a similar thing happen with an A380 to 772 swap on OZ couple years ago. F seat changed to J.
MP account activity appeared something like:
(120,000) OZ F
(80,000) OZ J
80,000 OZ J [a miles credit, like a refunded award]

Even though it was very clear still owed 40k miles for downgrade, at least one UA agent and supv claimed I had already been refunded for changed flight even when I slowly explained that the 80k credit didnt cover the 120k F seat that had been originally booked. Took an email to 1K voice to rectify.
