I’m with others, Brenda didn’t lie, she simply wouldn’t share. Huge difference.

Yes, they are instructed not to release this kind of information, but many of the pmUA 1K agents would answer this kind of question. Back when 1K meant something to the airline.

Exactly. When I call UA now and ask that kind of question, I'm much more favorably disposed to the agent who is honest and says "I can't release that information."

Sometimes even the most cynical UA flyer has to feel sorry for what agents have to endure sometimes - like being called a liar for following policy. Definitely a no-win situation for them...

As for "can't look that up" vs "can't release that" - depending on OPs version. {Posters} often tell their side in a convenient way, or at best, have misinterpreted....

She could have elaborated a little. Instead of saying "I can't lookup that information" she could have said "I'm not permitted to release that information". Regardless, I agree that you should never rely on any customer service agent to make any decisions. MAYBE a club agent or a gate agent depending on the question and the circumstance.

Amusing Monday thread indeed.
But I'm wondering why not just buy J/F ticket and not have to worry about upgrades? YUL-Hawaii J/F fares are dirt cheap, like in the $1,100 RT range.

"Brenda" is an alias a lot of airline agents use, not only at United.

At Delta, it's "Debra" or "Sonya" - and just as much a liar, don't be fooled by the nom de plume

I've actually had pretty good luck with UA phone agents, the only liars they hire work at the airport CS counters.

I seem to get a lot more misinformation from phone agents than the ones at the airport. Regardless, it pays to HUCA or politely excuse oneself and find a different airport agent if you aren’t getting correct information or your desired outcome.
