Does anyone have the offer (if there was one) to purchase next level Premier status for 2018 based on inadequate PQDs spent in 2017? I know they usually offer deals to do that in January but didn't see one this year. My wife was $335 PQDs short of getting Silver for the first time in 30 years - due to inattentive husband (me) - and is displeased, to say the least. Flew 30,000 miles, so it should never have been an issue. Or, in other words, at this point in time, what are the deals/things to be done to get Silver for her in 2018?Thanks -
2018 UA MP elite status buy-up offers (for higher status than earned in 2017)
pretty sure any offer would be expired by now though

Another new kid level question. Mileage Plus agent I spoke with tried to say that PQDs accrue only when you pay for ticket or Economy Plus seat yourself - meaning using your own credit card. When my wife and I travel together and I purchase our tickets and then Economy Plus seats using my Chase MP Visa, I get PQD for my ticket and seat but she gets no PQD credit at all. Is that really the rule?
If so, it sounds contrary to the written rule - the Mileage Plus web site says that “PQD is credited to the account of the member who travels, not the member who purchases the ticket.” This makes it sound like you should get the PQD credit when a ticket or Premier seating is purchased for you by someone else (“the member who travels”).
If so, does this rule apply when her or my company pay for tickets we use for business travel? After all, it's not our credit card paying for that, either.
Buying two tickets separately, using separate credit cards, to get PQD is crazier still - having separate tickets get joined into one itinerary takes a 45 telephone call to customer service - no thank you. But separate tickets means our tickets/itineraries aren't linked, resulting in our chosen seats being separated randomly when United changes plans or schedules (which happens all the time), and that we are separated randomly on upgrade list, etc. Such a rule is too crazy even for United - or is it?

You're right - buy-up offer expired. Long sigh. Need to figure out Plan B - getting wife her own Chase MP Visa: $450/year. Buying "subscription" to bags, Economy Plus, etc., even more $.

The Chase Explorer Card has a $95 annual fee (waived first year) and offers one free checked bag and priority boarding.

If the op has a wife who is silver for 30 years, that' 750k mimimum. Assume even 5k over each year, and she is 900k. Only four years to million miler and gold for life.

Close - about 880,000. Assuming United doesn't monkey with the Million Mile qualification, that's one of the reasons we've discussed for not switching.

Basically, Silver's been devalued to where it's not much more valuable than the Explorer card all by itself. If you have a good use for the bonus miles, you might even come out ahead over where you would have been if you'd spent the extra $350 last year.
