I think this was addressed quite a ways back, but I don't have the link. Off the top of my head and excluding any maintenance issues, I suspect the GUM birds are high cycle, low hours. Swapping out with a domestic aircraft which has more hours than cycles allows the aircraft life to be extended.

I don't think the GUM 737s are necessarily high cycle frames. While the routes may on average be shorter than mainland routes, the frequency of these routes/utilization is lower. I think @UAinAUS is spot on.

Yup, corrosion was listed as the reason during the previous GUM - domestic swap. Having lived on a sandbar off the coast of Texas for 15 years in my previous life, I can safely say that the salt air does a number on a number of objects.

Same principle, different product:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wear_leveling

TL,DR spread the wear out over your whole fleet instead of a few planes to make your fleet will last longer

The first batch of Micronesia 737s (the ones that replaced the 727s in 1999 or so) spent about 15-16 years in the GUM network. During mid-life heavy maintenance visits, more extensive corrosion-related damage was noted than similar hour/cycle frames in the mainland fleet, primarily due to the high-salt environment. So, as the 738 fleet ages, aircraft are being rotated out of Micronesia at a faster rate, apparently every two years or so. Aside from the Island Hopper, the GUM flying isn't inherently more demanding than the mainland network, mostly turns to Japan followed by lengthy sits at GUM.

Also worth noting that UA is planning to grow GUM again.

OK, I posted a spreadsheet of Polaris activities on the Fleet site. It shows each fleet in columns with completed, in mod and waiting for conversion from top to bottom. Colors indicate, Polaris, Polaris with PE , mod and no color for those aircraft waiting for conversion. There is a running total on the bottom left of units converted and a percentage of units converted. there is also a seating configuration count in the center bottom.

Check it out and let me know if it needs anything.

It is linked near the top of the home page above the large logo on the fleet site. I've added it to my signature on my posts.

763:
N673UA entered LCQ 2755/2Dec
N677UA sked to exit LCQ 2756/2Dec

Guam.

GUM is the hub for the Micronesia sub-fleet.

The configuration is slightly different and obviously no DirecTV. Several frames are currently in process of swapping due to high salt content in the moist air in Micronesia.

Still trying to wrap my head about why UA is dropping YYJ-SFO with all these CR2s coming

Can't fill one CR2 when AS has 4X daily Horizon prop and DL has 3X E75 from SEA

Where are all these CR2s going?

I do like flying via YVR better with MLL access as MM, but we do have Tim Horton's at YYJ and sometimes SFO connection works better. And going via YYC tends to be long, and YYZ is just a non starter for me.

Guess I'll have to continue to relive my pmCO days and fly AS and receive better service

The flight is cancelled because of an unexpected operational issue, according to the app.
