LHR-SFO UA900 one-way, no J for sale because F is cheaper

I looked at UA900 for the entire week of 8/20 onward, and could not find a single J seat listed for sale despite the seat chart showing oodles of openings and F also having availability.

What can possibly be happening? Related in some way to transitioning out of the 747?

Searching RT either for economy or business LHR-SFO departing the week of Aug 20th, I see business seats for sale ($1,600-ish)

A full $1300 cheaper RT than the reverse (SFO-LHR)!

The $1,600-ish was just the LHR-SFO portion (sort of a bogus number, but it was for sale versus the OP porblem of not seeing anything).

The return & total RT prices varies significantly depending on stay length

Cheapest fares are around $3000 RT ex-LHR and $4300 ex-SFO.

When I search daily for flight 900, there are no tabs to purchase a J seat (OW).

I see what you mean. Just the F returns for a one-way purchase.

But you can buy the RT in P for $3k.

The problem appears to be that there's an one-way F fare published that is cheaper than the one-way J fare, so that's all it is returning.

This is only showing up for UA900 and not UA949, as 949 doesn't have F so it's giving the J fare.

When I search each day that week, OW, Business, LHR-SFO, 10:25AM UA900 -- the fare is $9K -- but it appears to be F, not J

Using FF and IE

When logged out, it states no business but sells F (for the same price)
compared to full J fare on UA949 ($9,500)

Appears you may be running into a OW fare rule issue where a F is cheapest??? versus Full J

As people probably know, LHR is not really a market that believes in allowing people to purchase one way tickets. This is the entire fare table for one-way tickets LHR-SFO (origin Europe).

Code:
--------------------------------------------------------
Cxr Basis BC Cbn Cur Price Tp AP Rf
--------------------------------------------------------
 UA BFFGBOWW B Y GBP 1,143.00 OW Y
 UA Y77OW Y Y GBP 2,869.00 OW Y
 UA J77OW J J GBP 6,999.00 OW Y
 UA F77OW F F GBP 6,553.00 OW Y
You "can't" buy a ticket in Business class because full F is cheaper. You can buy the J fare on a two-class plane. If you really wanted, you can search for a J fare specifically and book it (website will show it).

I could not get it to display. Searched for J and searched for J, C, D, Z. All it returned was F.

Can only book First not Business

I have been looking at flight UA 900 and UA 949 LHR to SFO departing August 30th for a week now and even though there are plenty of business fares the website only presents an F fare for "business".

Expert mode shows:
Available fare classes:F5 FN5 A4 ON0 O0 J9 JN9 C9 D9 Z9 ZN9 P9

But lowest "business" is F at $9115. My problem is I need to book "business" through my company website and the F fare will never fly.

Anybody see this before?

I tried it through Google flights, then clicking to book on United. Seems to go into P fare for the outbound and A for the inbound for 3,884.07.

Does this link work?
