I wonder what's up with 881 ORD-NRT, which got halfway up Canada, then diverted to SFO. Got back in the air in just an hour and now arriving 4:24 late into NRT. Seems a long diversion for a medical issue, and if mx, couldn't have been considered very dangerous.

Crew medical issue? SFO would be a logical place to pick up a new crew.

According to the UA app they did an equipment swap in SFO 2706 to 2719. I am guessing a MX issue, maybe ETOPS issues?? Arrived into gate 80 and then the new plane departed out of 82 (which I believe share a waiting area so just walking over.

If it was medical they could have gone to YYC, YVR, YEG, or SEA.

I take PVDtoDEL pointed out SFO hub, as there would have been limited/no crew available at Canadian or SEA outstations.

Yes but if it was medical I doubt they would have own another 2.5 hrs if they determined it was significant enough to divert, ANC was even closer. With the aircraft change I bet it was due to a maintenance issue, either UHF radios or ETOPS, when they turned is about the pint in the flight they would be testing UHF radios.

UA 18

UA 18 MXP-EWR 3/21 scheduled to leave at 9:45am, checked this morning 6am at hotel... all good. Get to the airport' 6 hr delay??? Now leaving 3:45pm. Asked about other connections earlier, and was told everything massively delayed. Still haven't gotten any notice from UA.
Now 10:30am, still no notice from UA. Went down to checkin in to inquire about alternative flights, nothing available... they did give me a voucher for lunch and told me the incoming flight was diverted to Gander NF due to a medical emergency. Luckily I have lounge access.

Did .bomb/app show anything at all about the diversion of the incoming flight at the time you checked in from your hotel?

No nothing and the lounge is filled with others who also never received notification of the delay. Up until about an 2 hours ago the flight was showing departure at 9:25 with boarding beginning at 2:15???

Does medical emergency negate EU261 compensation? .... just curious.
