Free E+ upgrades??

I booked my trip to Boston and had free upgrades to E+ and then again to Jacksonville.

I won't have Silver status until December. I flew Business/First to Buenos Aires and again to Lima earlier this year so I'm not sure if this is happening because of those two trips.

I'm not complaining obviously but why do the gods bless me??

Thanks in advance!

Justin

When did you get E+ access (we avoid the term upgrades for E+ since that is associate with a cabin change)?
At the gate/airport or before?

Is it possible that you were a recipient of a gift E+ Subscription when some seemingly random selection of people got either a surprise E+ Subscription or a surprise status upgrade? the thread on that is here

Hope someone is around to answer this... I'm currently reserving a United flight and for some reason the seating chart is telling me that Economy Plus seats are "included". When I select one it doesn't seem to change the price. Does "included" mean "free"?

Unless you have UA status or have purchased an annual E+ subscription, there will be a fee to sit in E+ portion of economy.
Occasional at the gate, and regular economy is full, there is a small chance of being assigned an E+ for free.

"Included" does mean free. This nomenclature usually occurs when you select an Economy Plus bundle prior to seat selection, but "website error" is another common cause. If you are not actually entitled to free E+ it's likely to error out along the way to purchase, but no harm in trying.

I reserved the flight and I was not charged for the E+ seats. Apparently I'm not the only one this has happened to: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...-upgrades.html

I don't really care about extra legroom but I hope they give me extra miles or something.

E+ doesn't earn any sort of extra mileage anyway. There is a small chance that in case of equipment swap or anything else that scrambles your seat assignment that you will lose E+ access with no recourse, but that's the risk you take for doing this.

it is suspected those folks received a "free" E+ subscription (ending Dec 31, 2016) UA was offering for some earlier in the year.

E+ seating has not earn extra miles, RDMs or PQMs. All E+ provides is better legspace, the rest of the service is standard economy -- which is what E+ is (with extra legspace)

Yeah, I can confirm I was given a free E+ subscription. I didn't get an email about it earlier. Thanks for the info about miles.

I was given one as well. It also includes a companion on the same reservation but it did not include international.
