Ok, I am confused here. If I book Premium Economy on ANA via United.com then the fare class I see is "A". Unfortunately Fare Class "A" not listed in the below messaging on United.com. But it says "ANA fare classes"....so are those fare classes different then what's on my United.com reservation? Just trying to figure out if United "A" fare class might correspond to one of the below "ANA fare classes"

"The following ANA fare classes are eligible for PlusPoints upgrades: B, C, D, E, G, J, M, U and Y. PlusPoints can’t be used to upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy on ANA-operated flights."

United A fare class is ANA E fare class.

Its buried in the fare rules

Generally for *A carriers using G/E/N Premium Economy fare structure map 1-to1 to UA's O/A/R

Having an UA A premium economy fare for a NH flight, means you have a codeshare that needs to be convert (as soon as possible) to NH flight number.

YCA full fare upgrade

Here is the relavant term and condition for ANA-operated fight for Pluspoints upgrade:

"PlusPoints upgrades may not be requested when you travel on industry discount, agency discount, deeply discounted promotional tickets, award tickets using miles, or tickets purchased on websites where you don’t know the exact flight itinerary or airline until after you’ve paid for the ticket."

Is full-fare (Y) government ticket eligible for Pluspoints upgrade? This is HND-SIN ANA flight, not ANA's Air Japan. A 1K agent and her supervisor said that government fare was not eligible this morning. This is explicitly stated in LH's terms and conditions, but not on ANA's counterpart, https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly...Lufthansa.html

What is your take?
Thanks.

coded as an NH flight? I don't see an issue. As UA codeshare ... I think that will run into issues because UA govt tickets to the best of my knowledge cannot be changed to native flight numbers

Update: I booked my trip on UA. (ORD-SFO-HND-SGN, HKG-SFO-ORD in January. I called the 1K line who spent an hour changing the HND-SGN flight to a native ANA flight# so I could apply PP. I used the link on United.com and applied 40 PP for the upgrade to Business which cleared immediately. Sweet!

However two other issues popped up:

1. I had PP applied on the SFO-HND (UA metal) and also HKG-SFO (UA metal) both waitlisted before they tinkered with re-issuing the ticket. But now my account shows that I am not waitlisted on either flight and I cannot add them back. Calling 1K again, they swear I am waitlisted even though it doesn't show it on my account as being waitlisted anymore. Is this a known technical glitch??
2. The PQP totals dropped by about $700 after I used PP on ANA.. I am not sure if that's accurate because maybe I am now earning lower PQP on a ANA partner airline method, or if the totals are all just really janky.

Auto cancel of upgrade

My wife has a ANA stock ticket in E class with no codeshares. DEL-HND-ORD open jaw SFO-HND-DEL.

She had used PP to upgrade the sector DEL-HND AND SFO-HND. The DEL-HND sector cleared few days back but now the upgrade has been auto cancelled. Called ANA and they asked to contact United as United did not confirm the upgrade in the system. Called United1K line and they cannot pull up the reservation in the system. United wants a mail from ANA that the upgrade is cancelled to credit the PP back.

The PP were used form my son’s account and could this possibly be the reason that the upgrade was auto cancelled. ( I am on the same flight and used PP from my account and there is no problem with my upgrade )

Need advice

1. how to have the PP credited back to my son’s account
2. how to get my wife waitlisted again for DEL-HND. Should we sort out credit of the previous PP or just apply additional PP for now as we fly out in 8 days
3. she is waitlisted for SFO-HND sector. If this clears should we be doing something to avoid auto cancellation of the upgrade as has happened on the DEL- HND sector.

1) You should not have done that. Changing/Re-issuing tickets with waitlisted +Ps is not a good idea. Best is to always apply +Ps AFTER all ticket changes have been made. That said, just because it is not showing does not mean you are not on the WL; if they show you on the WL and it is UA operated ... you should be good
2) That is irrelevant. It will credit most likely correctly. UAs system is not clever enough to look at the underlying ticket and since the reservation now reads 'I-class' it thinks it earns nothing. Will credit correctly.

A lot is strange here. UA does not need to confirm anything in the system; NH upgrade clear when they clear and UA doesn't need to do anything here. Did someone call UA and try and get the ticket re-issued??? This needs to be left alone and if it is ... it really shouldn't have cancelled. that is very weird.
1) UA needs to do that and yes, you might need to show that the cleared upgrade was cancelled somehow
2) Once +Ps are removed ... you can re-apply them. Applying them 'again' MIGHT work, but it might not
3) All of these upgrades need to be left alone. No calling, no re-issuing ... doesn't matter if united.com says to call or to re-issue the ticket

RAMSWISS Jul 25, 2023 7:20 am

Nobody called United as United has not issued the ticket nor are there any United operated segments. The travel agency that issued the ticket refused to do any changes for fear of the ticket getting messed up and them being held accountable.

I spoke to ANA today and they explained that the business class seat of my wife got auto cancelled since the passenger was holding 2 confirmed reservations on the same flight. My case is the same where my PNR shows I am confirmed in both PE and business. ANA has asked me to ask the travel agency to cancel my booking in PE. The agency has again refused to touch the ticket unless ANA asks them in writing to do so.

Confused now about what to do since don’t want my business class upgrades to auto cancel. Am confirmed on 2 sectors and waitlisted on balance 2 sectors all using PPs

Question about plus point upgrades on ANA

I'm planning to travel to Japan later this year, and can choose either United or ANA. For my possible travel dates, the airfares are comparable. I'd like to use some of my MANY plus points for this trip. Since ANA is one of the few partner airlines where I can do so, I'm wondering whether my chances of eventually getting an upgrade confirmed would be better if I buy the ticket from UA as a codeshare rather than buying the ticket from ANA. Or are the chances exactly the same?

wxguy Jul 25, 2023 11:39 am

See here for details.

The chances should be the same, but the process is different (see below for codeshares).

Remember that only certain fare codes are available:

PlusPoints can be used on flights operated by All Nippon Airways (ANA) for one-segment, one-cabin upgrades on any multi-cabin international flight operated by ANA and marketed by ANA or United. Upgrades are subject to availability and valid for paid, published fares only. The following ANA fare classes are eligible for PlusPoints upgrades: B, C, D, E, G, J, M, U and Y. PlusPoints can’t be used to upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy on ANA-operated flights. Once your ticket has been issued, requests to upgrade with PlusPoints can be made through https://www.united.com/sso/en/us/sso...uage=en&POS=us You can make upgrade requests for ANA-operated flights beginning 365 days before departure until 24 hours before departure. If you are traveling on an ANA- or Lufthansa-operated codeshare flight with a United flight number, upgrades may be available and can be requested by calling 1-800-UNITED-1 (1-800-864-8331) within the U.S. and Canada, elsewhere call your local United Customer Contact Center.

Airfares may not be comparable to get PlusPoint-eligible fares on ANA. Be aware that some discount fares are not eligible for upgrades. For example, UA PremiumPlus O and A fares will translate to ANA fare codes eligible for upgrade to Business, but R will not.

cfischer Jul 25, 2023 12:36 pm

NH upgrades clear quite frequently IME.

Upgrade ANA from an R ticket

I see the list of classes that will allow me to upgrade an ANA ticket with Plus Points from Economy to Business, but I dont see that an "R" fare is valid, which confuses me because R is Premium Economy (ok, discounted) but surely that should be higher tier than Economy...

So is this correct? No upgrade from R?

Thanks, K.B.
