Will United issue waivers for Fort McMurray due to fires?

My wife has a business trip booked through UA from IAH to YMM with a stop and plane change in YEG.

Her clients have cancelled the meetings due to the devastating fires. Anyone heard anything about waivers on change fees from UA?

She was going to call UA later today but I thought I would ask here first.

So must be an AC codeshare, and AC has issued a waiver. Air Canada Operations.

So UA should rebook for free.

I would keep checking UA's website to see if any sort of travel waiver has been issued and if so, it will be listed under "Travel Waivers" on this page

Does UA normally (ever?) issue waivers for places they don't fly?

UA has done waivers for LH strikes, however I would be surprised, given the very small impact on the UA flight community (but HUGE impact on residents), that UA will issue a waiver in this case. However I would fully expect UA provide relief based on the AC waiver.

Especially since AC seems to be canceling everything into YMM.

YMM is currently closed to all commercial air traffic. Given the level of destruction I would not be surprised if the airport remains closed to commercial traffic through most of next week. Depending on your wife's date of travel the flight may have already been cancelled.
