Welcome to this thread to ask your basic, simple questions about United Airlines, its operations, or the MileagePlus program. We know that the airline is complex and we’ve created this thread for new and veteran members to ask those basic questions about United Airlines that you think must have an easy answer but just can’t find it or aren’t sure where to look.

These are the two rules for this thread:
  1. Use this thread for a simple, basic question. Moderators may move posts to other threads if the question deserves its own thread.
  2. Any member who can post a constructive, patient answer is welcome to reply.

I was promised to receive an ETC from a United representative within 3-5 business days, what are these ETC usually worth? Is it worth waiting for it to be e-maild before making my next booking?

The agent usually tells you the amount. If it is compensation or a problems it could be $50 or $100 or .... up to $500 or higher (every rare). Impossible to guess.

However, as you have done this all in the LH system (and I assume they have updated their system by now), I would say that UA has either:

1. Not properly upgraded your wife to gold status yet.

2. Possibly given her a Platinum challenge?

or:

3. LH lost connectivity to their *A elite status database - or to United's database - whatever they are using to verify this.

Log into .bomb using your wife's account number and see what it says there, after which, we can probably guide you further.

I would say that if she shows no status on United's site, then might as well give them a call to find out what's going on...
When I took the UA status match challenge, I was matching from Silver on Cathay, and they matched me to Gold. Maybe it's policy for UA to match one level up? (Worth noting that Cathay status are 30k/60k/120k, so high than an equivalent UA status.)

Is there a current thread about seating in UA International 777 Business First? Apparently you can't search for 777 because it's too short. I've got a trip SFO-TPE in about a month, and I'm trying to decide on seats.

place 3 character phrases in quotes -- "777" to search.

Here's my question — I'm still baffled about what mixed United/Star Alliance flights count for what. I'll be flying roundtrip from San Francisco to Stockholm on one ticket. It goes SFO-ORD on United, then ORD-ARN on SAS; then the return flight is ARN-CPH-SFO, all on SAS.

I'm assuming I'll get miles I can use on United for this. Does this also count towards status on United?

Apologies if this is a knuckleheaded question!

All paid *A flights are eligible to earn PQMs. The amount is a factor of the particular *A partner and the partner's fare class. Need to look are the partner's earning rates on the united.com. For PQMs there is no difference if UA's 016 ticket stock or another ticket stock as long as credited to UA MP.

I have a question regarding upgrading and waitlisting. I feel its a simple question to ask so I will post it here, I apologize in advance if its the wrong place.

scenario:
a flight with instant upgrade availability from Flex economy to Business with copay + Miles on the 25th.

But I'd rather have the same flight on the 24th, however the 24th only offers to be waitlisted.

question:
Can I book the 25th and waitlist for the 24th somehow?

Can I use United beverage vouchers on any *A flights or does it HAVE to be United... I feel like I know the answer but figured can't hurt to ask. :P (I don't have access to OMNI yet so I can't offer a trade...)
