I was able to request this chip for my American Express Platinum card a while ago. That card gets me into the SFO Centurion lounge, which blows away United clubs. I will not be renewing my United club membership.

Thanks Avenezia. I just hung up with Club Card services. The Chase guy had just finished reading the internal e mail announcement when I called. 7-10 business days. Same account number and code, which makes life a bit easier. The agent said the Explorer Card is also now available with the chip, effective today.

I do find it a little annoying that the PP card with its $400 fee doesn't get Apple pay or the chip. I really hope they do something to change this.

I am with you on that, but I doubt it will happen. They are hoping that feature will entice us to leave this card. I won't. I will just use another card when traveling, if necessary.

PP card doesn't get ApplePay because its an MC, and Chase doesn't have MCs ApplePay enabled. That's because with a very limited exception, the PP being one, Chase doesn't use MC anymore (I don't think they issue any new MC anymore, and to be quite frank, surprised the legacy CO cards haven't been switched over to Visa). Not sure if it was a fees dispute, or simply to better partner with Visa exclusively (a la UA/Marriott or UA/Hertz). I'm really pissed that my Freedom Mastercard got unilaterally changed to a Visa - as it was my only US-based MasterCard.
As to the EMV, the US-based way of doing it is pathetic. I'm not a fan of typing in a PIN everytime like i have to do in Canada, but the US banks have fumbled - finally agreeing to pay the costs to implement EMV because they finally realized it could benefit them, then making it so it only benefits them and not cardholders. The least they could have done was add a PIN - I don't really care that much about needing a PIN/signature - what I do care about is being able to show up in Europe, with a card geared toward travelers like the Sapphire Preferred I have, or the Club card, both of which waive foreign transaction fees, and then not be able to use it in many places, especially in ticket machines, etc. because it requires a PIN. I have a lot of products with Chase, and going anywhere else over this wouldn't really change anything since the US banks all do it the same way.
Until they have true EMV - with chip and PIN, it doesn't really mean anything, at least to consumers.

Great I'll give them a call today, it shows the Slate card on the Chase site which I have as well as the Explorer so I'll hopefully be able to get both taken care of.

Chase just changed the IHG Visa to MasterCard about a year ago. All the benefits stayed exactly the same, it just changed to MasterCard.

Centurion is at 3 out of 6 airports. If they can cover 5 airports, I'll consider the switch.
