Mandatory US billing address for e-certificate

I was issued an e-certificate that I am trying to use, and it is not accepting anything other than a US billing address. Called the Premier desk twice, both times placed on hold while agent calls support, confirms that I cannot use it without a US billing address.

This is a bit ridiculous.

Anyone in FT have experience with these? The site technically calls them "promotional codes" despite it being issued for flight operations. Is there any way around this US billing address requirement?

I have. I thought they fixed this problem though. The last e-cert I used was in USD, and I did my usual booking in AUD and it converted the amount. It wasn't exactly straightforward, but there was a way to do it.

I would call UA for help if need be. Do note that some e-certs might even say that they are only for US residents.

I just had a friend with a US CC do it for me. These were the 1016-starting "promotional codes" that were given. They're also nonrefundable, meaning you don't get the 24 hour grace period either. Quite restrictive.

UA really needs to streamline their instruments.

But worth more than an equivalent face value ETC because it also reduces taxes.
