Logging out and in has never worked for me. I've found that if I go into "Change Seats" and select "Confirm Seat Selections", it will then update.

What really annoys me is that the app can't keep track of dates correctly. For example, I have a one-way on a Friday and the return one-way on Sunday. The app shows both reservations with the return date. We also have a situation where + 1 is traveling on a Monday, I'm traveling on a Friday, and we're returning on a Sunday. The app shows all three reservations with the Sunday date.

United App. - you've done it again. :(

Well done for not learning from mistakes.

You introduced the Uber link, which crashed on a lot of folks phones because it wasn't written to support older versions of Android. You issued a version without Uber which worked very successfully.

Now you've gone and launched your "new" version of the App with in flight entertainment access, which is not suitable for anyone who has a version of Android below 4.0.

Not an issue. Except that the app forced through an attempted upgrade from the version you made available for older android models after the Uber fiasco, deleted that version of the app and then comes up with invalid data package when it tries to install the new version.

So now in the middle of a 40k trip with no app, no access to club passes etc.

Please provide a version of the app again, which is compatable with older versions of android, for those of us dinosaurs who don't see buying the latest "must have" phone of tablet every six months. I like my 4 year old tablet. It does exactly what I want it to do.

i am an iPhone user so pardon my ignorance but on iPhones you can turn off "automatic upgrades" so this wouldn't happen...is this united fault or a bad settings fault that an upgrade was forced on you?

It's 2015, Android 4.0 came out in 2011. They shouldn't cater to you just because you have an ancient phone. I'd rather they keep pushing out app updates that enhance the experience.

$100 prepaid phones even have Android 4.4

You can do this on Android too, you can also uninstall any updates.

If you are using a 4 year old device, I highly recommend turning off automatic updates. If your 4 year old tablet was doing exactly what you need, and the UA app was doing the same, why update it? When you are working with tech that is old, updates are often a bad thing. In the Apple sphere it won't update the app unless the device meets the minimum requirements set by the publisher. Not sure if Android has the same ability or if UA just isn't using it.

Also, make sure you send the above to UA via the Android app feedback and through the UA website. They can't fix it if they don't know about it, and the chances of them seeing your post on here are almost zero.

I've sent you a PM with a link from which you can download and install version 2.0.19. However, I concur with others that a time comes where expecting app vendors to maintain backward compatibility will only lead to heartache.

Do make sure you unselect the auto-update option for this app (really, for all apps) in the Play store.

To put it in perspective:
https://developer.android.com/about/...rds/index.html

Pre 4.0 devices make up 8% of total Android users. At some point you have to move on, and if the United app needs API features only found in 4.0+, then I'm glad they are ditching old users.

Aj. Thanks for the link. I have tried to install but got the Problem parsing the package message, so I guess I'm out of luck.

I appreciate what others say, but the reason I use this device (a Sumsung P1000 tablet) is that is does everything I want it to do, and I pay £12 ($19) a month non contract, for everything I need, talk text and including unlimited data. Until I got it I never carried a mobile phone. To replace this would mean carrying both a tablet and a mobile, which will cost at least three times as much to run per month.

Doesn't make a lot of financial sense for something that I lived without for so many years and still have no desire to upgrade.

This....but not quite so hash. ;)

Similarly, it doesn't make a lot of financial sense for UA to support 4+ year old versions of Android and the hardware running them.

There are a lot of new "phablets" that may fit what you want. Some have a screen up to 6.4". Otherwise, just keep that auto update off. No good comes from updating software on old hardware.

Burn your tablet to SlimKat (or another custom ROM). You'll get rid of any bloatware that you have and you'll be on one of the latest Android releases.

Digital Redesign Update: Android App

Happy ending.

Thanks to UA Insider, who pointed me in the direction of a link to an older version of the app which is on the .com site under mobile tools. It dials back the app to where I needed it to be.

And the auto update is OFF. :-)
