Can we PLEASE have a version of the App without Uber, until this can be sorted out.

Do you mean that the app worked until he tapped the Uber button and now it crashes whenever it's opened? If so, something in the app's data cache is causing the problem. One way to clear the cache: Settings / Apps / United Airlines / Clear cache.

If that solves the problem, avoid tapping the Uber button. :)

No. He was able to reopen the App once it had shut down, which is more than I can do.

He then tried again, having activated the GPS on the phone, (something that he doesn't normally use because it eats battery). This time, the Uber section worked and it took him to the map section.

Evidently, it is Uber calling for the GPS which is causing the problem. There was no call for access to GPS with the older versions of the App. Adding this requirement is a step too far for older tablets like mine possibly. Even with the GPS enabled on my own tablet, however, I cannot get the app to start no matter how many times I clear the cache/data/RAM etc. I had no problems with the App until the Uber section was added. Now it is totally unusable.

FWIW, from what I've read, having GPS enabled normally costs very little battery life. I think a lot of users misunderstand enabled to mean turned on. GPS receivers running non-stop would certainly drain the battery in a hurry, but just making them available for an occasional fix when demanded by various apps does not. It would only take one ill-mannered app to spoil this, though. :)

Sounds like you've isolated the cause. Have you reported it? It doesn't look like its developers monitor the Play Store's user reviews (where I just learned that it "sucks" and is "the bomb!"), but maybe a PM to UA Insider will be routed to the right person.

Digital Redesign Update: Android App

It's been reported by both of us, and I've also pm'd UAInsider.

I've encountered a problem with the Android App which seems unrelated to the GPS issue. After the Uber update, it generally worked fine for me.

Today, I went to check into my flight and the App just crashes immediately on the blue United screen. I tried turning on GPS, tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and it just keeps crashing.

I have an android phone and an ipad. The ipad app works fine.

Related to a recent update? Anyone else having this problem? Could it be an issue with my device?

Same problem with my Android phone. But it did work on the Android tablet the last time I used it.

I had to restore my phone which had the old app that worked just fine. The new app just crashes as you state.

The old fine app should also be made available.

Typical Smizzzer United!

I've had trouble with the app on my Android phone since Friday night. I get the message that "Unfortunately United App has stopped", then when I hit "Report" I get a message that Google Play has stopped. I've uninstalled and installed several times, as well as clearing caches, with the same result.

Thanks, I didn't look back that far since it had been working for me. My problem is the same as post 72 actually...crashes while still loading. I can't even get to the point where you're crashing. Seems like there's no fix for this, and the UA app is now useless until (hopefully) the next update. Must only affect certain OS.

UPGRADE NOW AVAILABLE FOR USERS WITH OLDER ANDROID VERSIONS WHICH RECTIFIES ISSUE OF FORCED CRASH.

Just had an email from the developers in response to a message I sent them a couple of days ago. Uploaded the new version, which appears to have removed Uber again.

App now working again on my tablet.

The other alternative to fixing the problem: use Uber, but don't fly United.

Fixed it for me too! Not too bad, didn't have the app for only 2 flights.

With that upgrade, the app now rejects all my attempts to log in.

How did you contact them?

If you have the Amazon/Kindle Fire UA app and have issues, please see my post here:
