RNE, asking who'll pay my fare so I can prove it?
I'll kick in 10.000 miles for a saver economy seat for you! 9 across? Or is it 10?

This is true - the route was simply no longer profitable. Many will debate the way SQ operated it was the issue (all business class) but in the end no one filled the void - just not enough demand or a more efficicient aircraft to fly the route to make the economics work.

I miss that flight - and the service...

Yeah it was pretty cool to spend 18 hours on an airplane and actually be sad when the flight was over. "Do I really have to leave?"

Living in KTM I am so looking forward to this new route - especially since BKK is no more . Wonder about GPUs SFO/CTU, when purchased in B. Upgrading CTU/KTM on Air China is another story ...

Who'll make that 20,000?

RNE, noting that October 27 is my birthday; that'll make a swell birthday jaunt.

No its not. Emirates can choose to fly to any international airport to and from any point, in the United Arab Emirates. OPEN SKIES

For example, they could, in theory send 77Ws / A380s or any plane for that matter to the remaining cities in the US that EK does not fly to

Denver
Miami
Atlanta

non stop DAILY to DXB

I don't think any of those airports are A380 compliant.

Not sure about Qatar, but I am sure there is an open skies agreement also, thus UA can operate the tag along DXB-DOH flights, while QR and EK send A380s to just about every city in the US. Who said life was fair? LOL

I have a friend that claims to know a pilot whom told him after they get a few more of the new 787's next year that UA is planning a SFO-BKK non stop.
As I go BKK a few times a year, that would be great.
Anyone else heard anything similar?

Would give UA a big high-five if they actually launch SFO-BKK route, and bet many FTers will feel same way!

Of course we would - but I really doubt it will happen - they just eliminated all of their great people in BKK - such a shame and in my mind so shortsighted....

the 787's nine across seating in E, even in E+, just is not workable...

Boeing marketed the plane with 8-across seating, which looked fine, but most of the airlines immediately went with 9-across seating....

Bring your snorkel and fins.
On the upside, it ensures no battery fires on termination
