I will probably be wrong, but I don't expect any further changes to the "published" program. They already took a meat ax to it (PQD, double partner redemptions, can't see SQ on the web-site).

I expect that we will so no changes to AA for 2014 (no way they upset that apple cart with AA gaining yield parker badly needs) and DAL is improving skypesos (by for example giving SWUs good on any fare, adding the *Wood tie in).

UAL thought that there would be major devaluations at DAL and AA and now must be a little concerned about how they stack up in attracting HVFers.

I'm not saying that I expect no further cuts. I expect we will see little R availability for GPUs, perhaps TODs coming from another bucket, and more up sells, but these are things that are UNPUBLISHED cuts.

Luckily these things will not impact me, I have swam free of the sinking ship and just managed to burn off my miles! I'll wait till new management arrives to finish up my 2MM qualification....

I could be wrong, but I don't think there was a clear "announcement" thread for the 2013 program. While pmUA tended to have a clear-cut "these are the changes that we're making for next year" announcement each year, pmCO tended to introduce changes throughout the year and that is what I expect to continue. We've seen quite a few of those this year ... I personally don't expect any more substantial changes.

For those who don't follow FT very often, here's what's already been announced:

A few other changes that have already been implemented during the year can be found at

Did the answers you get surprise you? I know we've had our differing opinions in other threads, but given the tone prevalent in the UA forum these days, did you expect you weren't going to get a fair number of these types of responses?

As for my opinion, I don't think we're going to see any other changes for a while. Perhaps something down the line, maybe mid-next year or so. But wouldn't expect anything in the very near term. I suspect the MP folks will keep busy in the earlier part of the year with the previously announced PQD/award changes being implemented.

What I'm expecting is some edits to the basic chart of premier benefits. They seem averse to making those sorts of changes in the middle of the program year, and it would surprise me if there weren't some that they were planning to make.

The responses didn't especially surprise me. :) And I agree with you about most things.

I think the major annual changes have already been announced but smaller tweaks can happen anytime as they have for the past few year. If you are awaiting more major announcements or more in depth explanations, you will likely be waiting for a long time. We will more fully understand the changes based on real experiences, not more detailed announcement (based on previous history of past changes -- such as changing segment rules on award travel).

If UA is pursuing the "Follow DL" strategy, does this mean GPU will be valid on all fares? ;)

Much too much uncertainty here. PQD in particular is a black box. Elite tier benefits have been consistently diluted since 2011... I would assume that trend will not reverse. The silence is unlikely to portend Christmas magic. I withhold business until I can see what the playing field is.

does "follow DL" mean flying 25K extra EQM to qualify for those and only get 4 instead of six?

LaserSailor Dec 16, 2013 11:48 am

PQD in particular is a black box.
Read the Wiki.

Fares plus E+ fees.

Thats it. Its not complicated for 99% of flyers.

The wiki in current state has a long list of unanswered questions. It's sweet that you're so trusting. I'm not.

I trust that Ill get PQD for fares and E+. I trust I won't get them for anything else. I understand there are a host of incremental questions about fare splits etc but Im glad UA is focussed on other things than answering these questions.

What about cancelled reservations from 2013 with residual value that are re-ticketed for travel in 2014. Is this addressed anywhere? I assume that the PQD accrues when the flight is flown but I you know what they say about one who assumes....

mgcsinc Dec 16, 2013 1:43 pm

With nothing but respect to all involved, this is not the PQD thread. Please keep the discussion of PQD counting there.

To give a sense of the sort of announcement I'd expect now, it wouldn't be something like the award charts changing (which they seem happy to do anytime), but instead something like modified bag limits for Golds. But perhaps folks are right, and modern UA just makes those changes on the fly.
