As of 3 March 2019, UA elites are being matched to the new Marriott Bonvoy Gold level including those UA elites who had gone Marriott Plat status during the Marriott / Starwood merger process. Marriott Bonvoy Gold does not include lounge access and late checkout is 2 PM

Q: If I registered and was granted complimentary Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status through RewardsPlus and have re–qualified for MileagePlus Premier Gold® status or higher for the following year, will I need to also re–register my request for complimentary Gold Elite status for the following year?

A: No. Members who have already registered for and received complimentary Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status through RewardsPlus in a calendar year and who qualify for MileagePlus Premier Gold® status or higher for the following calendar year will have their previous registration with RewardsPlus automatically renewed and will receive complimentary Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status for the following calendar year.

-------------------------------

For the United elites who are new to Marriott Rewards, here are the benefits you receive as Gold. Please familiarize yourself with what you are and are not entitled to as a Marriott Gold.

Also, please be nice to the Marriott 'newbies' who come to this forum to figure out what UA Silver gets (or doesn't get) them.

And here is a thread with some details for the newly-minted UA Silvers:

Amid the discussion of what UA's Marriott Gold will translate into, I have not seen any discussion of how long the new status will last? Since they launch the combined program in August, is that the new fiscal year for the program? Or will this new status just be a bridge to the next calendar year?

In 2020 I expect that plats from this year from rewards plus get downgraded to gold. Hopefully I am wrong.

Go to marriott.com and follow the link right in the middle of the home page to view "program changes". Or there's a forum discussion on FlyerTalk.

Yeah this is the real question. I can get marriott gold about six ways -- from stays, to UA, to amex plat -- but late checkout being bumped down to 2pm and "as available" () for Gold's means I'll be staying elsewhere unless GS pick up the higher level.

It will last until 2019. It is just a bridge to the next calendar year to avoid the "Marriott bait and switched me; cutting my benefits mid year"

So the new scheme only lasts for six months, and then we'll find out what the airline status translation into Marriott elite tiers really amounts to?

Yep. I would have a hunch that it expires when normal Marriott status for the year expires, which means you'll have it until End of Feb 2019. Then, it all depends on the new agreement, if and when it's figured out.

Or perhaps united and marriott will renegotiate it and united gold and higher will now be marriott platinum in 2020 onwards.

Agreed. They won't even give it to those who have the $450 a year annual fee credit card. Even those people have to spend at least 25K in order to get Platinum status, why give it out to the thousands upon thousands of UA gold members.

If you mean the Suite Night Awards (SNAs) -- the implication of the charts that have been released so far seems to be that customers will receive them only upon stays. Lifetime members don't appear to receive any SNAs, and I don't think that status-matched members would either.

If you mean the possibility of a free upgrade on property at check-in -- it's roughly equivalent to UA telling Marriott Platinum members that they are eligible for upgrades as UA Silver. That is to say, it's technically possible, but don't hold your breath.

I don't have an opinion one way or the other on the eventual matching tier, but I definitely agree that SNAs aren't likely to be part of the package.
