Can I change last leg of award travel after first part of trip has started?

Not quite sure how to word my question. Basically we are flying award travel to Maui from LAX. I added on a one way to New York for free which is months after our initial travel. Need to know if I wanted to change the date on the NY travel when I need to do it by? Can it be done after our Maui trip? Here is current award travel:
5-31-13 LAX-OGG 20K MILES
6-7-13 OGG-LAX 20K MILES
12-26-13 LAX-EWR FREE

We were planning going over NYE but might need to change it to August depending on Husbands work schedule. Thanks.

If all the flights are UA, then yes.
If the flights include other Star Alliance carriers, then typically no. Although some folks (including me) have still reported success.

Even where partners are involved changes can be made. There are no differences between the two.

You had success because it's allowed.

Regardless of who's metal the flight is on all segments of a UA issued award can be changed. This started in 2009 IIRC.

Yes, assuming that there is an award space available.

Great idea btw, adding the extra trip...of course you have to get back but at only 1/2 the miles (one way saver).

its not an extra leg for free, its just a classic open jaw.

The silly 'extra leg free' term was used by the blog referenced above.

If UA ever cracks down on open jaws, that blog will be the reason why.
