Same numbers for me:

The $60 credit for the Visa and the 25% bonus miles + 4 Global Premier Upgrades do not cover the $2199 I would need to pay. Should have made a mileage run

E+ is usually down to middle seats at check in, I never check a bag, and since I fly out of DCA and now have the TSA Pre-Check, is the 25% up tick in award miles worth it?:confused. :
Bit the bullet and did it (at the House CinC's Insistence (House Commander in Chief)). Hell, I would have spent that on some software that I really dont need this week.

I ended the year at 11,846 (I'm in a mileage dispute for another ~4,000). This was my offer:

2,000 PQM / 2 PQS - $349
3,000 PQM / 3 PQS - $499
4,000 PQM / 4 PQS - $649
5,000 PQM / 5 PQS - $799
6,000 PQM / 6 PQS - $949
7,000 PQM / 7 PQS - $1099
8,000 PQM / 8 PQS - $1249
9,000 PQM / 9 PQS - $1399
10,000 PQM / 10 PQS - $1549
11,000 PQM / 11 PQS - $1699
12,000 PQM / 12 PQS - $1849
13,000 PQM / 13 PQS - $1999
14,000 PQM / 14 PQS - $2149 *

Got almost same offer for PP => 1K. The only difference was 1,000 PQM would have cost $1.00. I would clearly take that offer rather than use 10,000 Choices miles to get over 1K threshold. However, that would require playing "elite qualifying roulette" with United in Jan. for a relatively few miles.

They want $1,099 for 7k miles for my wife GM->2P.

I'm 70k miles from MM so better to spend the money on that venture.

Getting the "invitation only" here... Dropping from Plat to Silver and think I was ~18-20K from Gold (stopped keeping track when I knew I wasn't going to make it...)

I would have done it (needed 12 segments to get to Plat.) but there are way too many RJ's with no FC.

There was a time that buying status might have been appealing and worth paying a lot for. Those days disappeared in 2012.

UA messed up and I'm happy. In anticipation of this offer in late Dec. 12 I signed up to buy 5,000 PQM for 50,000 miles through choices. That would have left me purchasing 11,000 PQMs through the offer. Although I was careful in signing up, for some reason my choices purchase never went through. Now looking at the prices for 11,000 PQMs for 1K status, I consider UA's mistake a minor miracle. No way would I spend $3300 for 1K. And I still have my 50,000 miles too. Yea UA.

This I don't get. For $2500 you get 6 SWUs and 2 Regionals. That's a no brainier to me.

my offer was the same as this, i ended 2012 with a bit over 45k, dropping from 1K to silver in a couple of weeks... i am not taking the offer, going to spend the $$ on BIS and get 3-4 times as much PQM...

Maybe if you fly internationally on routes where GPU's clear; otherwise not so much.

I'm dropping from 1K to Silver, $1399 for 8K PQM so I can go Gold. I don't know why I'm considering this, most of my travel is in biz class which makes the status almost irrelevant.
