13 days ago I left my iPad on a united flight. I realized about half an hour after leaving the airport, and immediately filed a report with united. I had find my turned on, and could see the last location was on the plane. As the last flight of the night, its stayed there until 5:30am, when I saw it move under the terminal at YYZ. Later in the day, I saw it move into the terminal.
I waited patiently a few days and nothing turned up with my report. I messaged united, who “checked” with the office at YYZ, nothing.
I tried again a week later, still nothing.
Finally today I was picking up co-workers at the airport and decided to get my iPad back! Luckily when i left it on the plane the battery was 100%. I walked around YYZ and found the iPad was about 10m behind a wall on level 3.
I went up to the united special services desk, the agent went down and asked, nothing. I showed him the map, so he called again, nothing.
Finally he agreed to take me down to the office. Walking through the back hallways of the airport, we came upon the luggage services office. They checked the report and said they didn’t have it. At this point I could see my iPad in a pile of them behind the luggage agent. I pointed it out, she got it, it was tagged with my flight number, my seat number, but in 13 days no one had entered it into the computer. I believe there were about 6 of them as well as a handful of other items in the same state.
Hopefully united can take the 15 minutes to enter those items so others can get there lost items back too!
Happily typing away on my iPad now, due to apples great find my app, and persistence!

Just curious - so the battery in your iPad lasted about 3 weeks?? Love the “Find My” feature. And am just getting into AirTags inside my luggage. So glad you persevered.

Great story!

I had a similar lost/found experience (not with UA). I believe it was Shenzhen Airlines (member of *A). I left one of my two iPhones on the plane. I filed the report in Singapore where I landed.

I could see the phone in the “Find My” app somewhere in Terminal One at Changi airport. Call the agents several times and they said no one turned in the phone. I told them I could see the phone was in T1, but they wouldn’t believe me, so I went to the airport to show them my “Find My” app.

They were able to trace it to an office cabinet but I had to wait for another day for them to locate the key to unlock the cabinet to retrieve my phone.

I also had a similar story at SFO. I realised when I got home I had left my ipad on the plane. I could see it at the airport in the FindMy app. I immediately went back to the airport and went to baggage claim. The representative I spoke to said all she could do was file a lost item report and I would have to wait to be contacted. I know this was my fault, but that seemed futile to me. So, I walked across the terminal to the other baggage counter and the woman there after hearing my plea said it looked like it was in an office in the terminal based on the FindMy app location. She told me to wait there and she went into the terminal to that office and retrieved it (along with three other ipads that were sitting in that office).

I guess when the screen isn’t being used and it’s closed in the case, it can last this long! Over 35% when I got it back, so would have lasted another week easily!

Lost item in LHR UC, contact info?

We think we might have left a raincoat with bank cards in the LHR United Lounge. Is there any way to contact them? We aren't going to be back in London for 4 weeks so not sure if there's anything they can do but might be worth trying anyway...

WheelsUpGal Feb 27, 2024 3:28 pm

Maybe try to call United at LHR?

That seems to be the contact number for Heathrow rather than United@LHR.

Have you tried Heathrow Lost and Found? They have a very good database and you can search yourself to see if they have been turned in. Looking today there are a few coats that have been logged the last few days.

I’ll keep trying . .but that Lost & Found website is really cool!

Thanks all! I've sent in a web inquiry on united.com and will also monitor Heathrow's database over the next few days. Thankfully it's nothing expensive and I have other cards we can use while abroad.

Just a word of caution when googling contact numbers; there are a ton of scams out there that play the algorithm to boost their SEO rankings.

Seems like you’ve already done this but I would go through the official contacts on United.com, whether that’s by phone or email. It might take a bit longer but hopefully they can route you to the right contact. Good luck and I hope you get your stuff back!

I've been told to call baggage claim for United for any lost items. All lost items end up in baggage claim. I would try that avenue.

100% false. Destination of items left behind vary wildly. Items left on planes end up most of the time with UA baggage claim (and eventually a warehouse in Houston), but items left at airport lounges (incl. United's) or other airport areas (boarding areas, security check points, etc) often end up elsewhere. As examples, at London and Las Vegas (for example), it’s with airport lost and found offices. At LAX, it’s with the airport police office on Sepulveda. In the latter cases, UA might only have lounge-found items in their possession for a couple of hours.

LHR Arrivals Lounge contact for lost property

Hi all,

I left my son's stuffed Sesame Street Grover somewhere between landing and leaving LHR last Friday. I am almost positive it was on the plane in the cabinet next to our seat, and have a photo of him in it. My son wanted to put him in "his own seat" to be safe for landing.

I reported Grover lost through chargerback within the hour and am engaged in a kafkaesque process with the baggage department about it. No one ever answers the phone when the 1k baggage desk tries to contact the LHR baggage department.

The one possibility I want to explore is if it might have left Grover behind in the arrivals lounge. Does anyone know how they might be reached? Or might be passing through there in the next few days and could ask on my behalf?

No one has any idea how to contact them-- not 1k voice, not the baggage desk, not Heathrow lost and found, and not the United Club help desk. I don't know who operates it because it's shared with AC/SQ/etc, or where lost property might end up.

Thanks in advance.
