This is actually better than I'd expect for Newark staff.

this is a couple of years ago, but left my iPhone on the AirTran at SFO and somebody turned it into the airport police who in turn called my emergency contact to notify them my iPhone had been recovered. I promptly returned the iPhone I had just purchased and recovered my old phone.

Suit Jacket

Left it in the IAH E United Club.
Sent in a report.

Any other tips?

Left a tablet on a flight from Europe->EWR in Polaris. Realized it on my connecting flight. Submitted a L&F claim - heard absolutely nothing. The device was either stolen or sitting in the L&F at EWR and nobody looks at the claims. I dunno. It obviously wasn't a super expensive tablet because I didn't even have tracking turned on :)

You can probably call and get direct number to that UC to find out what they do with lost items.

Items left in United Clubs may end up elsewhere than in UA’s hands. At LAX, items left at the UC get turned over to airport police lost and found on Sepulveda, whereas items left on a plane end up w/ UA lost and found. At Honolulu, found items spend only a couple of days there before they are shipped to Houston lost and found. I’ve unfortunately found these out through the years.

UA needs to publish a detailed listing of handling of lost items, as well as relevant contact info.

Unless your jacket had identifying info on/in it, could be tough to track down.

Being a total nerd, I actually have small stickers on my iPhone, iPad, laptop, carry-on bags, eyeglass case, etc w/ contact info on it. Paid off once when I left the iPad in a seat back pocket.

Anybody has any luck with retrieving left carry on items at LAX

Just left my laptop in my seat on arrival at LAX, ugh. United only seems to offer a web form and has nobody to call. I’m only here in LA for 24 hrs before flying to Australia, so wondering if they’re likely to get it back to me before tomorrow night. Is there a number to call? Am UA Plat fwiw.

I'd try to head over to luggage claim tonight or early in the AM and begin there. They've had suit bags that I've forgotten in the front closet a time or two. Have your boarding pass to show which flight/seat you were on.

I’d recommend belt and suspenders approach and fill out the form and also go back to the airport as suggested above. It’s been years but I had a couple of times I left things and filled out the form and got a note that it was found pretty quickly. When it’s shuttled to the lost and found the likely first step is to check the database for a claim.

That being said, I left a couple of things recently (including my wallet) and never heard anything. I visited SFO bag claim weeks later and they told me that for about a month during and after Christmas, they were too short-staffed to deal with it and shipped it all to Houston

Left headphones on my seat two weeks ago, filed report immediately, notified a few hours later item was available for pickup at bag claim or they would ship it to me. Need to file that report!

For anyone that may have this happen going forward, if you're still at the airport go to the check-in counter. They can radio the gate. I did this at PHX recently.

I left my iPad on a UA flight once and really wasn't expecting to ever see it again so I bought a new iPad. Low and behold about a month later a package was shipped to me with the iPad I had left on the plane.

$60 cash was taken but I was just glad I didn’t have to go to the DMV

Lost my wallet EWR-SFO-TPE. Was found 2 days after filing report and got it back 5 days later. Also was emptied of all the cash inside, about 250 USD and even some pound sterling I had inside. Those folks in lost and found must be making a fortune....

Could be cleaning crew. The first one who finds it probably has the best chance of pilfering w/o being caught. There’s probably a pretty good number of people involved in getting it returned.

I was nearby when a wallet with cash was turned in -- because it had cash NO ONE wanted to have it without having a witness... The agents receiving it tried calling the # on the reservation for the person matching the ID in it and when no answer neither let it out of their sight until a supervisor picked it up, counted and confirmed the cash in the presence of the other agents and then took it to the baggage service office for further processing.

Assuming it's a UA staffed station, as one agent has told me more than once "I (can) make more than $100k a year with great benefits, I'm not going to risk that for something stupid"
