Upgrade Waitlist Order

My wife and I booked a ticket as one PNR, then separated the PNRs after initial booking. We have identical status, are booked on identical tickets at the identical time. I recently cleared an upgrade on one leg of the trip but she did not. Why would this be the case? What would put me ahead of her in u/g waitlist order?

Were you the "lead" or purchaser of the 1st PNR?

Yes. I purchased the tickets on UA.com while I was logged in (and on my cc).

Then thats most likely why you were upgraded first because it was the first ticket that was purchased.

There is no such thing.

Tickets are issued serially, not in parallel. There is always a sequence in which they are purchased, even if they are on the same PNR.
