With this bonus offer you will qualify and receive 50,000 bonus miles after you make purchases totaling $1,000 or more during the first 3 months from account opening. Purchases do not include using your account for balance transfers or cash advances, or using any checks that access your account. After qualifying, please allow 6 to 8 weeks for bonus miles to post to your account. To be eligible for this bonus offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment. This bonus offer is valid only for first-time United MileagePlus Visa cardmembers with new accounts. Previous and existing United MileagePlus Visa cardmembers/accounts are not eligible for this bonus offer. Bonus miles do not count towards Premier status.

Have others who had a UA Visa before applied and received the 50K? I had the card approx 3-4 yrs ago. Would def reapply if I were get the bonus again.

Were we surprised to receive a letter informing us that she did not qualify for the bonus since she was a previous card holder! We reread the offer, and nowhere does it say that previous card holders are ineligible. And since they had her Mileageplus number and current miles, they must have had all her information before they made the offer. Hope you are more successful in getting the bonus miles then we were.
For what it's worth, nothing in the PAPER offer itself says anything about not having had this card before to be eligible for the benefits. The offer on paper is ironclad. And as I noted, TSMRSRNE has already begun to receive bonus miles, despite having been a cardholder before.

I will hold onto the paper offer as well- as u mention OP there is nothing there about previous card member- in fact they add the bonus miles to her current balance in the lower left hand corner of the paper offer to show how many miles will end up in the account!

You will recall my wife too was a former Explorer Card holder; despite that, she met the $1000 spend and received the "Chase Explorer Enrollment Bonus" of 50,000 points, making a total of 55,000 with this offer. ^

Another data point- my wife (2 months sans a mileage plus card) just received her 50K + 5K bonus so it looks like everything was legit!

Any rumors of this offer coming back? It'd be really convenient for my MAR churn

But when you click on OP's link today, you get a message that "This offer has expired. You are being directed to the Chase Home Page."

In December 2012 was able to sign up for the OP offer (except now $2000 has to be charged to the card over the first three months) at my nearby Chase Bank. Rep entered/completed the card request via his terminal.

Thanks. I'll check it out in March.

When did you recieve your sign up bonus? I just got the card, spent the required $1000 by the first statement and was a bit disappointed not to see the bonus points on the statement. I also have a MileagePlus Select card, so I am a little worried about the "Previous and Existing customer" clause.

United CSR told me by phone in 2012 (and I assume it's still true) that MP Select and Explorer CCs were considered the same card = no bonus on Explorer for previous or existing customers.

I plan to get my wife the UA Explorer CC when she has cleared 365 days without a MP Select. Even that method may not generate the bonus--CSRs throw around the term "should" a lot more than "will."

I hope it works out for you. Very curious to see if they honor it.

I just got the card and noticed in yesterday's "welcome" e-mail that they say posting of 50,000 miles would come 6-8 weeks after the $1,000 spend.

Received 55,000 (50k + 5k) miles in MP account upon statement date.
Charges for the period had satisfied the requirement to obtain the bonus.
