If the DidItClear website is going to be effective, it needs more members and trip upgrade data!
Please visit https://www.diditclear.com/ and include your trip experience with CPU's, RPU's, GPU's and any other means of upgrading available on United.
The better the data, the better the search results and experiential history.

A Regional Premier Upgrade will be considered used if any segment of an itinerary is upgraded and flown.
... I'm assuming "yes" because the fine print said that if using an RPU for a First Class upgrade, the RPU would be refunded if no legs upgrade to First. Since the front cabin of YYZ-EWR is marketed as Business rather than First, it could be argued that I didn't get any upgrade to F. ....
) but it would get you nowhere.

do not believe so because UA states
you could (+1 for thinking out of the box
) but it would get you nowhere.

I wish I had taken a screen shot of the language about the "First Class" cabin when I applied the RPU. I can't seem to find it anywhere now.

The rules require your original fare class needs to be available to do this but generally (however not always) this is true for most fare classes on day of travel. 12 hours are so prior to the HNL flight, the displaced waitlist should given you a rough idea of where you might stand (remembering a few more folks will be added to the waitlist as they checkin later).

- an GS or someone traveling on the same PNR as a GS or potentially those using miles from a GS account (inherited status with credit card)
- Any elite on a Y or B fare or any 1K on M fare
- Any 1K on RPU/GPU/Mileage Upgrade or anyone using an 1K's RPU/GPU/Mileage Upgrade or or potentially those using miles from a 1K account (inherited status with credit card)
- Any Plat on a higher* fare on RPU/Mileage Upgrade or anyone on a higher* fare using an RPU's RPU/Mileage Upgrade (* or the same fare and requested the upgrade earlier or at the gate check-in earlier)
- And theoretically any F award ticket and not seated in F

Hi,
Still trying to plan September European travel and flights from EWR-LHR and then LIS-EWR for return trip have no upgrade space. Its been 2 months since I first started looking at this.
When can I expect space will become available? I'm looking to buy economy ticket for my wife and then upgrade her via use of my GS father's GPU's or with my miles/cppay.

You are either going to have to just keep looking and hoping that space opens up or pay for it now. My personal experience of LHR, SFO, LAS is that upgrade space is extremely limited, but my dates are usually not very flexible so that has to be factored in.

If E+ was purchased but flight is changed and then sponsored RPU/GPU is used, is the E+ fee refunded after date of travel? I would think so, moreso because of the flight change because of the upgrade, but not sure. Any idea?

Go here and select E+ refund from the dropdown and give them all the information and see what happens.

Should refund automatically but if not use the method Silver Fox described.
