How do I get EF to search for R seats? I only see option for things like window or aisle....

You search for fare class R rather than for a seat. Clck awards and upgrades and select United Airlines and R fare class will show as an option.

GPUs get refunded if the BusinessFirst segment does not clear

Could anyone confirm if this apply to an itinerary including transcontinental and transpacific flights, for example, BOS-SFO-PEK? So, if SFO-PEK is not cleared, GPU will be refunded even if BOS-SFO is upgraded?

Thank you.

Thank you.

That's correct! A nice consolation prize if the BF segment doesn't clear.

Decent chance you have to call to get it re-deposited though.

Great. Thanks.

The trip will be in 3 weeks. All R=0 now. Let's see

If I sponsor a friend RPU for ALB-IAD-HNL, only the ALB-IAD segment is cleared on CR7, will I get back the RPU?

I called and the agent said I would get it back only if I were the traveller.

Reference? I only remember the official one for GPU, not for RPU...

I've done it for family members for both RPUs and GPUs. (RPUs came back just recently for a failed HNL flight)

They automatically credit back if they don't clear any segments. The redeposit is almost instantaneous now (as it's rare for me to call MP for redeposit).

right if no segments at all clear - then it is refunded

poster though was asking if the short CR7 leg clears, if it will be refunded, answer is no -- if any segment clears on an RPU, the cert is used, in my limited experience. on a GPU if the international leg fails to clear, it is not used, even if the domestic leg clears.

Not true -- this was a EWR-IAH-HNL flight ... RPU cleared on EWR-IAH but not on IAH-HNL. I was refunded that night.

Will I encounter difficulty applying a GPU on two international segments booked via multi-city? (less than 12hrs layover)

jason8612 Jun 6, 2013 1:10 pm

If I was to go with a MR routing like
LON-EWR-GIG-IAH-SFO-NRT-HKG which was booked on one PNR but technically priced out as V and W (V LON-GIG and W GIG-NRT) and no conx was over 12hrs, would that be 1 GPU?

Should not.

I booked a multi city to make sure I get mileage credit since it was two segments with same flight number and was able to apply GPU which cleared on all over water segments at time of booking.

Funny thing, when I got an email that my final domestic segment cleared into FC I noticed that my departing flight left before I arrived in SFO  :( :td:

But the short answer to OP is yes.

I flew AAA-BBB-CCC cleared on a RPU. Got to BBB and saw an earlier flight that was F5 R5 Y9 (all coach buckets 9) and asked at the PC to move to it and keep F. Immediately, she said no, and when I pressed it, she called the Helpdesk. The Helpdesk confirmed, saying the only way to do it would be to SDC to the other flight in coach and apply a fresh RPU to the new BBB-CCC flight, and possibly deal with MileagePlus after the fact to recover it.

I thought they were supposed to have fixed this same day logic on RPUs, but apparently they haven't.

Any other experiences?

Semi-related one...I changed HKG-EWR-HKG flights for my MIL next month from an existing ticket, just needed to push back a week. Specifically picked new days w/R space. Of course those UGs didn't transfer over...not surprised it wasn't automatic, but there's also no apparent way to click a link or the like to apply them.

Quick call to UA fixed it (didn't even have to deal w/MP), but I wish it was a bit more intuitive.
