Hello
Trying to sort out sponsoring a GPU for a friend in W, ORD-AMS next week. EF shows 0RN or R availability which is what I think(?) is upgrade to business class. I really never use my GPU's so I'm not clear on this. I can't exactly understand the whole process and a call to United simply reveals that he is on the PA waitlist (not sure what that is). Any one have any insights to offer in regards to this whole situation. Thank you! |

(PA just means elite status) The upgrade can clear anytime or never. AMS tends to be one of the easier upgrades but no guarantees. Mid-week is better than peak business travel days. For UA 908 Sunday Jun2 is J2 - not good Monday Jun3 is J6 - better but most likely will go to the gate and near departure before clearing Tuesday Jun4 is J7 Wednesday Jun5 is J9 and upgrade space is available now |

R is economy to Business upgrade inventory, it is used for mileage+copay or GPU upgrades. (RN is the elite inventory but presently there is no extra RN inventory).

I have Global Services as part of a corporate agreement as I don't really fly all that often, but as I understand it that should transfer to my colleague and he should be somewhere near the top? Thanks again |

Any upgrade experiences SFO-CDG flight?
Does anybody have experiences trying to clear SFO/CDG/SFO using Globals? Seems difficult from what I can see on seat maps, upgrade lists, etc. This route is often vacation travelers so wondering if C seats are selling or upgrades are given to mileage plus money....or what.
Anybody fly this newly restored route yet? Wondering if I should route through ORD as this usually has worked for me in the past.... |

Why not just look for R space and book accordingly?

I sat on the waitlist for a September 20 flight SFO-CDG for over four months and watched the seatmap fill from literally zero seats assigned to about 2/3 full. Concluded there was no chance I would clear and changed to a P fare into LHR, from where I'll take the Eurostar.
Based on this experience, and the astronomical fares (no P or Z on this route), I'm guessing it is extremely high demand and that the C seats are mostly being bought with valley money, and that any cleared GPUs are going to GS. Plus it's a relatively small BF cabin. So my guess is that the chances for a 1K to clear off the waitlist are not especially good. |
Tough to clear. I booked in Oct 12 for a mid May flight, never saw R availability, and watched as business filled up. 36 hrs before the flight R2 appeared and I snatched a seat, by chance. Return was not so lucky.
But, if you can get seat 18AB or 21DEF, the huge amount of legroom makes the experience quite good; better option than changing thru ORD even for business seats IMO. |

Cleared CDG to SFO
Yup, cleared with two of us using global s, CDg to sfo for OCT.
Just set an alert on EF or keep checking for R avail. |

Just set an alert on EF or keep checking for R avail. I've had an EF alert set for about six weeks for the Sept. 20 SFO-CDG flight - nothing. By contrast, I just cleared HKG-SFO - supposedly one of the toughest upgrades in the system - for 6/17. |
How do I get EF to search for R seats? I only see option for things like window or aisle....
