If the DidItClear website is going to be effective, it needs more members and trip upgrade data!

Please visit https://www.diditclear.com/ and include your trip experience with CPU's, RPU's, GPU's and any other means of upgrading available on United.

The better the data, the better the search results and experiential history.

I have a quick question and I honestly haven't read back on this thread. Planning a trip next year, and only have 6 GPUs for my family of 4.

I'm a GS member and I apply two GPUs from a friend who is a 1K to my reservation, will the last two clear into PN or R since the GPU is from a 1K? Thanks.

Unless something has changed, you will have to split your reservation into 3 and 1 person so that you can apply your 6 GPU's for the 3 and your 1K friend can apply 2 GPU's for the 1-person reservation. When that happen, your friend's GPU is going into the R bucket.

RPU within 24-hour of departure?

Applied an RPU for a friend a few days ago but only waitlisted. Now it is inside the 24-hour before departure. Do I have to do anything or call any one for the RPU waitlisted continue to work?

Once your friend checks in, it should remain on the itin, and if your friend checks the flight status via the app or United.com, he/she should be on the list.

I just had that experience a few days ago, and it worked for me (although the RPU did not clear...).

I've given RPUs to a friend (GM) and after waitlisting it cleared at the Gate. He didn't do anything, and I didn't have to either. It seems to go on auto pilot.

Through an unfortunate series of failures of judgement, I've got EWR-SFO on one ticket, SFO-LAX-MEL on another. Time in SFO is about 2 hours. The published GPU rules don't seem very clear on whether an itinerary has to be a single ticket - is there any way I can apply a single GPU to the entire trip, or would this require two separate upgrades?

Two separate tickets, two separate upgrade instruments required. The EWR-SFO can use a RPU.

I was thinking to split the family into the 3, and myself as the single reservation and apply my friend's GPU to myself. Would that still clear into R only and not PN since the GPU is from a 1K?

Thanks for confirming. I think R will be fine. Looking at going to Tokyo next year, and upgrades from SFO seem pretty available.

GPU expires 31-Jan, the same day I fly, but UA doesn't depart til 1 Feb

I have a GPU I'd like to use. I'm flying HAN-HKG-EWR. Ticket booked on UA metal. The HAN-HKG leg is on KA departing 31 Jan from HAN. The HKG-EWR leg is UA departing 1 Feb. My GPU expires 31 January.

So, question is, will the GPU work on this flight if I book it? KA isn't Star Alliance... it seems to me this should work since the journey starts on 31 January.

So I'm on the PVG-SFO tomorrow with a Full BF and GF, but I'm number one on the UG. I doubt it will clear.

The later PVG-LAX (sorry I had SFO here) flight has 3 seats unsold in BF. Only middle E+ left.

I called the 1K line but they wouldn't give me any insights into the LAX flight upgrade list.

I'm on a V fare.

The 24 hr window for the LAX flight starts in about three hours.

Do I wait for 24hr to go and call in and see if they'll tell me what the UG list is composed of?
At 24hr, will that LAX flight fill out those seats to R and run the UG list- so if I wait to inside 24hrs I'll lose the chance at the UG.

The SFO flight is 7 hours earlier and I don't want to sit in a middle e+ for the 11hr LAX flight if I move over before the 24hr window to try to snag the UG and then get stuck.

Anyway to protect my aisle e+ seat on the SFO flight and dip my toe in the LAX flight UG pool and if it doesn't look like I'll make it, jump back.

That and I'm #1 on the SFO UG. I can hope someone gets held up immigration or traffic...

Trip date for purposes of FF programs is generally set as the scheduled origination of the first segment, so you should be ok!

Good luck with upgrade!

Nope.

Nope.

It is based on the specific flight departure and this one is after the set date. The good news is that UA has historically been willing to extend a GPU a bit for some customers. You have to call and request it, but you might get lucky.
