Headlines saying Airbus out, UA looking at Boeing for 200 plane order.
Nor that Airbus was considered anything more than a negotiating chip with this management team...

Continental had an exclusive relationship with Boeing dating back two decades. The new United is run by Jeff Smisek, who joined Continental in 1995 and was chief executive officer during the merger talks. United’s fleet management group is overseen by Gerry Laderman, senior vice president of finance and treasurer, who joined Continental in 1988.

This hasn't surprised me, given PMCO's arrangement with Boeing and the fact that United is run mostly by former Continental executives.
I'd not be surprised if previously announced Airbus orders by PMUA we're canceled in favor of Boeing jets.

Too add to the unfounded speculation...
Given that there are about 1,000 more orders for the neo vs. the max, I imagine Airbus might have been offering a less favorable delivery schedule. Also, Boeing might be a little more desperate to catch up in the sales race.

I love the way the consider new 737s an upgrade over the 757-200.
757 can board behind the front cabin.
For this alone, the 737 is inferior.
I hate it when kettles constantly bump into me and my seat, while boarding.

I don't think negotiating leverage is an issue - there are many other points for negotiation besides 'I'm talking to Airbus'.
On a personal note, this would make me very happy.... I'd much rather see the business stay with Boeing. Not an Airbus fan.

I love how the stock video is the old United livery. It never ceases to amaze me how media outlets never get the right plan or livery with their material. you would think the airlines would want to get it right for branding purposes.

Continental has been exclusively a Boeing customer for the last 20-odd years. Now that most of the CO management is running the new United, it wouldn't surprise anyone if they continue the exclusivity.
I don't think negotiating leverage is an issue - there are many other points for negotiation besides 'I'm talking to Airbus'.

regardless we don't know why they did this but I hope there is a reason behind it more so than just that is how Continental used to do things so that is how the new airline does things.
Does, with the added evidence of everything else, seem to further point to this just being continental...
