May 2020
We’re making some changes to the Million Miler program. Starting May 4, 2020, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be giving bonus miles for each Million Miler level achieved above 1 million miles. As a result, we will be retiring our gift site and ask that if you wish to select a gift you do so by May 31, 2020. If no gift is selected, we will deposit bonus miles into your account to show our appreciation for your continued loyalty.

If you want to see some poor lifetime benefits, head over to American where the highest status you can get is Platinum at 2MM - and at 3MM get some systemwide upgrades and the same at each additional million miles. Over at Delta, the highest you can get is Diamond Medallion (at a whopping 6MM+ MQM's (yes, I know MQM's if flying premium cabins are more generous - but 6MM still a high bar).

2MM Onboard Experience

Went LAX > Tokyo and return and just got back on Monday. After landing in Tokyo (NRT) I was at 199,256 lifetime. So if it was going to happen, it would happen on the return. Boarded the flight, took my seat (6L) and the purser came up said they were expecting me, brought the 1st Office over, he said the Captain wanted to see me in the cockpit. Got to the cockpit door and the captain came out presented me with a "Million Miler" coin, a card from the flight crew and another card from the flight attendants on board. The the captain invited me to sit in the captain seat explained most of the controls and took my picture at the yoke of a 787 Dreamliner. As a private pilot flying Bonanza's and Cessna 172s that was pretty cool. They went way over the top for me as soon as I got on board. Should also mention I got the 35,000 mileage gift in my account too.

Congratulations. Perhaps though you may need to correct the statement “I was at 199,256”. ✈️

And a different view of the same of the same milestone. Last month on PDX - EWR redeye I crossed 2mm mark and the flight was uneventful. A couple of days later I received an email congratulating for hitting that milestone and that I would receive my hard copy of my achievement in the mail. On Monday I received a small blue box from the VP of Marketing & Loyalty containing a very nice lucite memento. Checking my account I did find the mileage gift.

Welcome to the 2mm club -- the 1mm -> 2mm step is the least rewarding of all. But think about it in the positive sense, you're now that much closer t 3mm!
